for those familiar with the novels, was this based on a particular one and if so, what was the path gerald chose (roughly)? if not, based on what you know of the novels & geralt's character, which key choices would he likely make?

I'm assuming you are talking about the Witcher 2 (or 1). Unlike most video games that are based off pre-existing media, the Witcher Games extend the story of the books.

As for what choices he'd make, seeing as he's got full on amnesia in the first game, I don't think it really matters. In the second, in my opinion, he'd say screw you to the North, King, etc, and go along with Triss to recover his memories.
