Hi! back in the day I used to play a racing game for MS-DOS, now I can't remember its name and I'd really like to play it again for nostalgia.

What I can remember though is that you drove racer cars with laps and other racers.
The POV was from the car seat, but IIRC you could switch to behind the car as well.
You could also, if you were on first spot with the others way back, stop in pits to replace your tires with a neat little animation shown from above.

The graphics were nothing specular though. It was one of those CGA graphics games.
It had no other sound effects than the PC speaker. No music, just the engine sounds.

Anyone knows?

Possibly Grand Prix Circuit?
I think so! Since I never saw it in color it's kinda hard to figure out, but when I saw the Pit stop screenshot it all came back to me.

This is largely unrelated, but if you're interested, I'd recommend taking a look at the Street Rod games. They're pretty basic in terms of the racing mechanics, but what makes them rather fun and unique is that the core element consists of tuning your various cars, which is quite surprisingly advanced.
I mostly bring it up because they were recently released as freeware by the new copyrights holder, here.

Also, here are some screenshots from the CGA version of Grand Prix Circuit.

There are PC and C64 versions of the first one and PC and Amiga versions of the second one on there - which versions are best?

In terms of graphics and sound, the Amiga versions are definitely the best, but the gameplay barely differs between them and the PC/DOS versions.
The C64 version of the first game is a pretty poor conversion, from what I can tell. It's kind of ugly and slow.

So far I've mostly played the DOS versions (particularly of the first game), primarily because they're the easiest to get running.

"Street Rod SE" is the same as Street Rod 1, except that it includes the content from the "Car Data" expansion disk (new cars, stickers and opponents).

Wow! That was my first racing game! There was another one with bikes that was the same engine.

I also played a bit with Street Rod. It was great fun to bet the car on the races. :-)

The Cycles: International Grand Prix Racing? This is actually the first time I've heard about that title, but I am familiar with that engine mostly due to The Duel - Test Drive II. I think the original Test Drive game was actually the first to utilize it.
The only bike racing game I like is Moto Racer. God, I'm having such fond memories. Mostly of my brother ragequitting behind closed door... Yeah...

Wow! I never realized that the first Test Drives shared their engine with these games! They were clearly similar, but I thought it was a different engine. Now it seems so obvious. :-/

Thank you for the lesson, InfraSuperman! You sure know this stuff. ;-)
