I was looking over Dream Pinball 3D, and I was struck with a memory of an older pinball game that also had "3D" in it's title, which probably referred to the "perspective" from which it was played (it was viewed 'isometrically' as opposed to the flat, 2D perspective of Win95's bundled "Space Cadet" table), and possibly some polygonal (as opposed to flat sprites; Ick, flat Sprite.) objects. The publisher/developer of the game went all-out when packaging/promoting this game, because I also remember it coming with a VHS cassette with a short feature on the "History and Origins of Pinball, with guest star, Aerosmith's Joe Perry (his whole 'appearance' amounted to five seconds of screen time, all of it him 'silhouetted' against a harsh light playing some song that couldn't be heard over the narrator's voice. Who knows if it was really him?)".
The meat of the game itself was actually pretty legitimate. It was an "objective-based" set of tables (I almost said "the first of it's kind", but then I remembered Kirby's Pinball came before it, and it had an endgame), the goal of which was to gather materials and process them to build, then launch a space station. I think the premise of this game was actually based on one of the publisher's other games (which isn't uncommon: I'd wager there are far more "real world" tables based on highly successful properties than there are tables with original premises).
I know that this game spawned several sequels, the last (or second to last) of which was one that didn't feature objectives. One of these games was about a goblin infested castle, the next was a "Land of the Lost" dealie, and I think the last was either about remote control cars or roller coasters. Or maybe one of the demos that came with it was an R/C car game, I forget.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? The games I'm talking about, I mean. Not that the way my post reads like a senile demento.
