IMO, "long" is not a positive quality in point-and-click adventure games. Contrary to RPGs and Action games the gameplay doesn't lend itself to entertain the players for a very long time unless the story is very good, but personally I also prefer compact stories to long-drawn-out ones. You don't want to watch a 100+ movie either. I think that would only work if the stories are more episodic in nature, like a TV series, and with more focus on the characters instead of a plot. But I think sooner or later the puzzles would get in the way of entertainment, too, and wear down the players. Creating such a long adventure game and keeping it interesting for the players would be really hard to pull of, and I doubt anyone in the game industry would be interested in financing such a difficult project.
I guess, one could make a case for Planescape: Torment being the longest point-and-click adventure game in history, but it's not 2D and it also features RPG elements like combat and inventory management. ;) (EDIT: And it's not kid-friendly ...)
