catpower1980: I know most of those tips bro, I finished B1&2 multiple times and done some DLC's ;)
That's why after a while, I'm so bored with this disguised hack 'n' slash but like a junkie, I come back to it :(

I WANT SHADOW OF THE COLLOSUS BOSSES QUALITY GODDAMNIT!!!!!!
(Oops, my cat jumped on the keyboard ^o^)
I dive into strategy games to break away from the shooters. ;) Well, these tips we leave in the threads are left for posterity... and those who stumble upon these threads in the future.

Have you looked into the Lost Planet series 1, 2, and 3? I haven't played them, though curious about them...

I know they are 3rd P not FPS games, but that is about as close to SotC as a shooter that I can think of, or Binary Domain which is good but is too short, yet fun. Good boss battles though.

Been interested in it but never played them, jap game design is better at bosses. In fact, you just reminded me I have a drm-free version of Alpha Protocolon on a hard drive (taken from gamersgate), I might boot that up some day :)
I've always found it amusing that you know you are coming to a boss battle b/c all of a sudden you stumble upon a crap ton of health. At first you're like, "sweet!" but then you realize it's only b/c something evil this way comes....
Well, i think i shot Unreal's boss like twice and he got killed. That was quick and painless :)

-> start weapon fully upgraded, charged secondary fire with amplifier.

----

Worst has been Daikatana's boss. That was just buuaaragh. Had to cheap, too painful.

Yeah, and mostly there are no more enemies all of sudden :) I like how in the darks souls, there is only music during boss battles.

One game that break the mold of this linear game design was Ecstatica nearly 20 years ago (f*ck I realize I'm old ^o^) where you were wandering in the small open-world but had more-or-less random encounters (some scripted) with the bossy werewolf which was chasing you and beating you.

Classic Serious Sam spot... "On one hand, I really want this health pack. On the other, I just know it will cause a hundred monsters to come screaming down at me."
