I gave up on the series 2 hours into ME2. The amazing evolution of KOTOR, with the perfect mix of a gritty Star Wars vibe with a sleek Star Trek setting, filled with interesting characters, a gripping cinematic presentation, and a real sense of an immense universe was gone, replaced by:

A dumbed down cover shooter ala Gears of War.

LET ALONE the fact that the entire opening cutscene kills you off pointlessly, only to resurrect you, and essentially negate all the story of the previous game, having you work for a glorified villain instead. Maybe one day when they release a "Complete Series" pack with all DLC, preorder exclusive stuff included, I might try to suffer through 2 and 3 to finish the story, as Mass Effect 1 was and is still on my top 5 RPG's of all time list, but I don't know.

AlKim: I hate Mass Effect 2.

Deus Ex......has probably been the most disappointing game I have ever played.
Tell me about it. All that hype, and you get a grainy Blade Runner wannabe with wretched controls, incredibly basic gameplay, and boring characters. I fail to see what the hype was about and I get constant hate for it. It's like people worship the game like a lesser god, I swear. Glad to see someone else put down the Flavor-ade.
There's a lot of things that bugged me that were changed from ME1 to ME2, but the thing That I couldn't stand at all is that shepard basically becomes Space Jesus.

JCD-Bionicman: Telling someone that the idea they believe in is "just an opinion" is tantamount to shitting on their opinion.
Ha, so combat system in Mass Effect 2 compared to Mass Effect 1 is an idea you believe in? I hope you're also basing your lifestyle on it and that it completely changes your view of the world! But you know what? Even then it would be, yes you guessed it, just your opinion. Didn't know I'd ever use this, but ... Grow up!
I enjoyed ME2 to a point, but the game is just not very engrossing with it's story, particularly since you're required to go off the rails early on and sidequest which weakens the story further (particularly if you don't sidequest at all you get a Game Over ultimately).

ME1 was far superior, even if MAKO exploration got boring after awhile.

You can say that about all three ME games :-P Really, I think it's a shame that Bioware's decided to put so much work into the game's world and then present us with "Big evil is coming! Save the galaxy!" story.

ME1 was alright storywise. At least you had a tangible goal with a big reveal.

ME2 was... uhhh, we know where they are, we just need to figure out how to not be pussies and go after them. And oh, btw, none of this is relevant to ME3.
So, you hate this game so much you played through entire 30 hours? Tell me more about it.

I have heard ME2 referred to as a bunch of DLC lumped into a big game and I think that is fairly accurate. It's like a short story collection set in the Mass Effect universe.

Yes, it was fairly well presented. But the core of the story is still shite. I would really like to see a story on a much more personal level in that world - I'd much rather play a, let's say, smuggler with a crappy metal box of a spaceship, moving amongst the lowest leves of society, slowly building his way up to better tomorrows (or whatever,) than Shepard, saviour of the Galaxy, hero of the people

StingingVelvet: I hate that kind of hard mode but didn't find Mass Effect 2 to be like that at all.
ME2's new game plus is generally weird and unrewarding. You get higher bonus reputation and resources importing the character from ME1, than using the character you've just beaten ME2 with. Also, enemy toughness seems to scale to the "recycled" Sheppard's level at the end of the ME2.

I liked the end boss fight at the lowest difficulty setting. The future greatest threat to the universe dies to small arms fire after carrying out only one attack of roughly the same power as a hand grenade.
I disliked the dumped down gameplay. But overall it was a nice film.. err... game & worth my money.
For me i did enjoy the Mass Effect games although the storyline seemed to just fade away as the games progressed. The fact that the reapers in the 1st game where almost the ultimate bad guy that one ship could take on entire fleets and lay waste to countless worlds with their motives unknown and then when you get to the end of Mass Effect 3 with the godchild(starchuild) the reapers have been reduced to just annoying machines with no real personality and all they do is harvest and bugger off.

I also was annoyed at the dumbing down from game 1 to 3 although 3 did bring back some elements from ME1. Also i could not believe that the armours of your companions in the 2nd and 3rd game could withstand space. All they have is a breathing mask on their mouth and nose but bugger all else on the face and they can survive the freezing cold of space.
If you really hate a game then you might want to find another hobby because that's a lot of emotion to put into a leisure activity that's supposed to be fun.

Personally I love ME2 and found it to be one of the best games in the last 5 years. The combat felt meaty and tactical, good graphics, Martin Sheen, and decent length. But what made ME2 so magical to me are the characters - I love Mordin and his ethical struggle with his work, I love Samara because she is bad-ass, I liked Miranda and her Deus Ex reference, I loved Tali's sweetness and I loved Jack being a bitch - very sexy.

Another user called ME2 a "short story collection" of a game and that's a very good way to describe it. It has a ton of side missions loosely strung together into a perfect unit. It's the gaming equivalent of reading Edgar Allen Poe or Stephen King. I loved it and have played the game through 3 times.

If others don't like the game then that's cool but why start a thread about HATING a game? I thought we left that kind of shit back in kindergarten - where the "cool kids" would always hate on whatever you were into at the time. Me, I just prefer to play games and have fun - if a game is frustrating or just plain bad then I can always just hit the uninstall button.
