I know not everyone runs old games on original hardware/OS but some of us do. I do it for multiple reasons but my main two are: 1.) I like running 3DFX games on an actual Voodoo card and not through a wrapper. 2.) I also like running DOS games on a DOS compatible OS.

So it would be nice if the GOG installer was Windows 98/ME compatible. If you feel the same, vote here...

Useless. There are ways to let XP-era software run on older Windows OSes already.

But you must first obtain said software.
I've recently setup a PC for older games, and it wold sure be handy if I could use the games form gog.

I don't need newer games to work on older hardware, I want older games with the gog installer to be compatible with Win 98/ME.

What would be even more useful is to provide original installation media (as optional extras). I too have a Win95 PC setup for older games and would like to play them without wrappers.
There is a place for stuff like this. It's called eBay, they sell old games for old computers and OSes :-P

You know, GOG.com sells (mostly) old games for newer Windows.

While KernelEx is certainly awesome, it's not quite that awesome. Compatibility is hit or miss. :)

a place where the demand is greater then the supply
the prices are inflated

and the media 20 plus years old and never sure fi it will work or not ;p
Including disc images in the extras section won't be a selling point or anything for GOG, most of the people will ignore them, but I guess that the cost to implement it is quite trivial, it seems really easy to make happy those who appreciate it.

the rights holders might balk at that though
for reasons that are opaque to anyboy but them

And that is where I go for games, where the original installation media is really important to me. Spending money, that could be easily spent here instead.

That would be something I know at least one of my friends would appreciate. He has a lot of older computers he keeps around and being able to get the original installation files would be a lot more convenient for him.

That is actually what I would really like to know. What is the reason it's not implemented. I'd thinking it's trivial myself, so I'm wondering if there is something else I'm not aware of. Legal issues? Problems with copyright holders? Something else. I'd really wish GOG would give an answer.

Exactly! I'm not asking for newer games to run on old hardware either. I just want the installer to be compatible with Windows 98. :D
GOG - or at least the part of GOG that's about old games - is all about making them work on new computers. If you want the games to work on their original intended hardware then there are the original versions of the games for that. I don't see how it would ever be economically viable for GOG to meet the needs of the eccentric few who like their computers as old as their old, old games.
There's no need for that. If you want to run GOG installer on Win 9x just use KernelEx.
