Zombie survival is probably the most popular genre in video gaming. However, is there any good zombie survival RPG? I can't think of any. I'm looking for Western RPG (NOT Japanese RPG) - with stat buildings, equipment collection, converation trees, NPC recruitment, moral choices, etc. - that is set in a zombie apocalyse.

yeah, this one looks interesting too. ;p
Dead Frontier, but it's more of an MMO, and it's ALWAYS in development. It can get pretty grindy/repetitive as well.
Dead State and Project Zomboid would be my first thoughts, I'm loving State of Decay right now as well. It's somewhat light but it does have stat building, equipment/resource scavenging, base construction, npc recruitment. You have conversations with some choices but mostly you end up helping in situations rather than being part of the discussion.

Ow, apparently my Project Zomboid has a Steam key now, sweet :)

Perhaps Zafehouse?

State of Decay? Beyond that, no clue
Zafehouse diaries is awesome, but it definitely is not for everyone.
I didn't have much fun with Project Zomboid. I found that the game played a bit awkwardly.

I would personally recommend Zafehouse Diaries a lot more. It's a bit different, being a bit of a mix between a strategy game and a choose your own adventure game but it's got a lot more depth than it seems to have at first glance.

State of Decay is also pretty awesome, though light on the RPG side as mentioned above.

If you're ever lucky enough to join testing, the guy who made Garry's Mod is making an MMO called Rust that's showing some potential so far, although last I played, even with so few players, resources were really, really limited as were the zombie encounters.

Lastly, I've been hearing a lot about 7 Days to Die although it is a lot more expensive.

Dead State
what about dead island? game is good, you have stats build and stuff like that. you don't have to follow the missions all the time, i usually roam around and think of new ways to kill zombies.
