Hi there,
So recently I decided I was gonna jump back into NWNDE for the first time in 15 years. It's been installed on my PC for a while. I just never got around to playing it.
I double-clicked the game icon on my desktop, waited, and nothing happened. I figured it was a compatibility issue, since I could see that the program was running in the Task Manager, so I terminated the application and tried running it in compatibility mode. Still ran into the same issue.
Then I noticed that GOG has a launcher now. Yeah, that's how long it's been since I tried playing one of these games. I went ahead and installed the latest launcher available and got the game downloaded via the launcher, and yet I'm still having issues with it not opening while still visible in my Task Manager.
I'm running Windows 10 Pro, 16gb, 1080ti, MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon. Not sure what other specs you'd need, if any.
I do have AVG Free installed and tried adding apps and exceptions. That seemed to do absolutely nothing. Many moons ago, I was using Advanced SystemCare as my antivirus and it worked perfectly, but it doesn't seem compatible with Windows 10 now because when I upgraded to a gaming PC from a regular work station, it no longer ran. I can't even get the iObit Malware Fighter and Uninstaller uninstalled completely from my PC, so if you have any suggestions as far as antivirus compatible with GOG, I'd appreciate that as well.
Steps I have tried:
- Running as Administrator in Windows XP (SP3) compatibility mode.
- Changing SafeMovie to 1 in nwn.ini file.*
- Renaming the .exe launcher itself.
- Deleting the following files due to compatibility issues with RealTek from ...NWN Diamond\miles: msssoft.m3d, Msseax.m3d, mssds3d.m3d, and Mssa3d.m3d.
- Installed OpenAL to handle 3D sound.
*Along with this suggestion was to change the Disable Intro Movies option to 1, which is no longer listed in the nwn.ini file.
I've also put in a support ticket to see if I can get any further answers from GOG themselves.
Thanks in advance,
Mandy
