I'm on WIn 7, CPU: AMD Phenom II 1100T, GPU: AMD R9 290x.

Things I've done to get the game running so far:
*According to GOG support page, I've renamed my .exe to NWN1main because my game keeps crashing on start.
*I've disabled Environment mapping on characters

So far I'm able to get past the character creation and see all the cutscenes. But the moment I started to be able to play, nothing shows up except two characters: Mine and an NPC. Aside from that everything appears black.

Did you try reloading the save game or starting a new game? I remember that happened to me a few times. All I did was, save the game at that point, restart the game and load the save game again. That always solved the problem for me.
