On the Neverwinter Vault there is a way to override the ECL. Has anyone done this? Does it make playing races like Drow a bit more fun, or is it OP because of the stat bonuses?

Do you mean this?

Yes that is the one. Has anybody used it?

It's there for a purpose. Removing it makes certain races OP.

Thank you. That's what I would have thought that it makes the races unbalanced instead of more fun to play. I was just wondering if anyone on the forum had experience with using the mod.

OTOH, it makes some other races that are underpowered (Genasi, who all have a +1 ECL for basically no reason) more playable.
It's not like classes or races were ever really balanced in the first place. So if you want to play a drow with no ECL, more power to you.

Sure, and you can just give yourself all 255s for stats. Enable God mod, etc...

You can play the game as balanced and intended, or unbalance to your hearts content, but it isn't the same game anymore.

I played NWN2 for years, balanced? No, never has been

It was never meant to be balanced either, between abilities and spells that the engine cannot render or have been cut from the game to make module easier to make, and simplification given the method of delivery is digital and not what D&D was originally meant to, a lot of adaptation has been made to the game

Most of them, not in the interest of balance. ECL penalty has been copy/pasted despite the adaptation, and despite that some race abilities are not fully usable in the state the game has been released in, with no regard for balance whatsoever

If there is a phrase about NWN2 that can be considered absolutely stupid, is the one you just said:

"You can play the game as balanced and intended, or unbalance to your hearts content"

You can hardly say something more ridiculous bout this game, plus as it all is not enough, NWN2, just like the first, is MEANT to be modded

Balance was NEVER a main concern in development, it is why most multiplayer server/module use custom rules after all

If you wish to be a purist, don't comment on mods threads, your "contribution" is useless and completely unnecessary

Also for your ignorance, in NWN2 stat can never go beyond 50, it's hard coded both in the engine and in the exe

Sorry that you think you are the forum police. But these are matters of opinion and mine is just as valid as yours.

I will post mine in any thread I feel like.

Drow get a ton of extra stat bonuses, immunities, spell like abilities, putting them ahead of all other races. The ECL balances that, not perfectly but does even the scales more.

Removing the negatives meant to counter all the positives is no better than taking character editor and adding a pile feats and ability bonuses to your character.

Either way you are giving yourself unintended bonuses.

Don't talk utter nonsense. There isn't a developer on the planet that would purposely make an RPG "never meant to be balanced". Pffft!

Considering that this is a single player game, if someone wants to play an unbalanced godlike character, who cares? Frankly NWN 2, like any D&D based game, is very unbalanced even when played vanilla, and good character builds can already breeze through all the campaigns and most mods, it doesn't make much of a difference imo.
