I've recently started playing through Storm of Zehir for the first time in over a decade, and made it through the Samarach segment without running into any overly-disruptive bugs. However, soon after arriving in the Sword Coast, I started having a persistent crashing problem during transitions from the world map down into various individual locations.

Specifics:
- When I travel overland to Crossroad Keep and try to enter the Merchant Headquarters from the map, the game crashes. I haven't tested whether the same applies if I try to enter at the other entry-points. It didn't apply, my first time entering the keep, when there weren't yet multiple options.
- The same crash has occurred for me while trying to enter two other areas, so far: the Shadow Cult, and Gothaladreum.
- In all of these cases, the crash has happened every time I've tried to enter the area from the overland map after traveling for an extended time. If I quicksave just before trying to enter, and reload after the crash, entering the places works fine (albeit with a second or so of game-freezing before it transitions into the loading screen). If I quicksaved while more than a few steps away from the location on the overland map, though, the crash will happen again. So the issue seems to be about either time spent or distance traveled on the overland map before the loading.
- Places which haven't triggered the crash include: Neverwinter, Port Llast, the Pirate Cove, various cities' inns and temples and trading posts, and everywhere I visited before my second time entering Crossroad Keep.

Does anyone have any idea what causes this bug, or how to fix it? I've tried installing the NWN2 Fixes mod, and that did nothing; I'm not sure what else to try.

Update: it's happened with Port Llast, too, now.

A partial-but-not-complete solution: it seems like the bug only happens when I try to enter a given area with party members other than my first. So, as long as I remember to switch back to my first party member (not my overland-travel specialist, inconveniently) before every area-entry, it's not a problem. But this is still a new thing that only started happening midway through the game, so mysteries still remain regarding what the trigger was for the bug to start happening.
