i wanted to re-install NWN on my comp but i have an issue with CD.
I have 2 games NWN (2 CD keys, each with its own set of 3 physical disks).
I use windows 7 family edition 64 bits.
When i try to launch CD 1, i have a message : "insert playing disk"
When i try to launch CD 2, i have a message : "insert playing disk"
When i try to launch CD 3, nothing happens, really nothing.
I tried with both games and i have always the same result, even by using manual launching from the CD folder.

I installed the game when i had my new system a few years ago and it worked fine. My system is still the same but i can't install the game anymore.

Have you any suggestion about what i can do ?

P.S. i am aware that i could try to DL the game from GOG but considering the fact that i already have 2 units of NWN, i am a bit embarassed with buying it for the third time.

At some point Bioware patched out the need to check for the CD when playing.

Try the critical rebuild patch:

Hopefully this can patch an old CD based game.

Well as you figure, i do not have NWN installed on my comp. So the critical rebuild said : "NWN is not found".
My problem is to install NWN from physical CDs.

I have both the original game on CD and a newer version Diamonds on DVD.

My old CD's have "Installation Disk 1" and "Installation Disk 2" and "Play Disk".

Just for you I put the CD Disk in the drive. I have "Autorun" disabled on my computer, so I clicked on the "Autorun.exe" file and it said: "Insert Play Disk" right away.

That does seem wrong. Some change in Windows I expect.

If I go to the disk and click on "setup.exe", that does seem to begin the setup routine, but I won't let it complete.

Give that a shot.

Do you think a DL version from gog could solve my prublem (i guess i can spend 9 € for such a legendary game)?
And in this case, will i have a new key for the DL game of will i have to use my own CD keys to valid install ?

You dont have to use any key to play a single player campaign. However, if you want to play multiplayer or on servers in the future, you will need to change your key since GOG version uses a default key which is probably banned on many servers. Atleast that is what they say.

Did you try running Setup.exe from installation disk 1. That seems to start up fine on my old CD copy.

If that doesn't work, GoG version should be fine, if you need a key for online play, just request one.

If you have an old CD copy, you probably don't have expansions Shadows of Undrentide, and Hordes of the Underdark.

If that is the case, buying the version from GoG is worth it for those alone. It's the game plus all the expansions.

Many third party modules require those modules. Third party modules make NWN truly outstanding.

I have played more than 1000 hours of NWN because there are so many really good third party modules.
