Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows if you can have:

One player with Diamond Edition hosting

and

One player with Enhanced Edition joining?

Or are they incompatible? I really do not want to buy Enhanced Edition given its poor reputation and Beamdog's questionable practices are something I'm completely unwilling to support.

Thanks for reading!

That won't work, however buyers of the Enhanced Edition on GoG get also access to the Diamond Edition.

"Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition includes the unaltered original version of Neverwinter Nights Diamond (The original version will be automatically added to your account.)"
The Enhanced Edition is running fine on Windows though and most Servers have upgraded to it, there is one annoying bug concerning human multiclassed characters though: prestige classes are counted when determing XP penality for multiclassing which shouldn't be the case.

And there is a reported memory leak on Linux due to inode pollution. I have played through the entire campaigns using the EE multiple times...
No. Enhanced Edition users can multiplay with other EE users. I've done that.

Never played multiplay for Diamond Edition, but I assume that's same.
Thank you passionata and dcthenew52! I'm sad it won't work, I really despise Beamdog even more now for causing this problem. My friend has NWN on Steam and it does not have Diamond Edition available as an option...

Nobody claimed the Enhanced Edition players can't play multiplayer with other EE players. The question was if EE users could join a classic 1.69 server or vice versa and that is simply not possible for the average guy/lady nor is it feasible since the network protocols greatly differ between these two versions.

There was an adult server which had a bridge running between the versions but that code is as far as I know not public (and in no way affiliated to Beamdog or Bioware) nor is it something easily set up for a gaming session between two friends.

See the discussion here at the "upstream" boards dating back to 2017:
