Has anyone ever had success with the Charm Person spell in SoU? I'm currently at the Ao camp, and the only time I've noticed Charm Person having an effect was when I tried to cast it on Deekin to get the Statue. The effect was... that he told me he noticed it and it wouldn't work on him. Great.

It's not like I use my other level 1 spells (besides MM) much, but if I had know that CP was *this* useless... well...

Charm Person is pretty much only useful for getting price reductions from merchants. The number of instances where the designers actually bothered to script in an effect for charm person are quite infrequent.

One of my beefs with the D&D games (IWD series, BG series, NWN series) is the fairly large number of useless spells. it's worth looking at a guide to see what spells to avoid just to stave off frustration down the road.

Never actually used it myself in any D&D RPG. Went through the entire NWN and expansions never bothering with it. I maybe wrong, because my preferred class is Rogue - I did play occasionally with a Wizard, but you are safe to just ignore it altogether. Waste of space in your spellbook.
