Hey I just got this a few days ago and I LOVE it however during the cutscenes and so forth the videos play well but the audio cuts in and out constantly. Its not pausing just or stuttering just cutting in and out. The INI edit Safemovie=1 just makes it worse. any ideas? running on Intel Atom dual 1.6Ghz, 2 gig DDR2, Intel 3D Graphics with 256 dedicated VRAM and OpenGL support. Oh and win 7 starter 32 bit.

Are you playing with XP SP2 compatibility?
Also, try to play the game windowed.

I haven't engaged any of the ComPat tools because I don't know which EXEs I need to apply the settings to. I do know that the desktop shortcut installed by the GOG installer had to be edited to get the game to run. the shortcut was directed to nwn.exe but I had to chage it to nwmain.exe to get it to run.

You did well by moving it to nwmain.exe. Just set up compatibility with nwmain.exe to xp2 sp2.

It may be a resource issue, so you might want to close any resource hogs (IE, P2P, GOG downloader, etc)


If al else fails and you want to view the videos, disable movies in the .ini and then play them manually.

And you can try to play the files manually using this program:

The NWN movies are BINK movies, so you should be able to play them with this player (I haven't tried that myself).
A few crazy ideas:

1) Update your video driver
2) Turn on V-Sync (I don't know if it'll work, but it might just drop your fps to 60, which might give enough resources to buffer the sound correctly)

cool thanks. I'll have to wait until I get back to base so to speak to try it out. one other item a bit off topic. tried to go to NWN.bioware.com and I keep getting the main site instead, what gives?

nwn.bioware.com shut down a while back (around the time Dragon Age: Origins came out). It's gone.

They have a new one. I can't remember the exact name, but I think it's social.bioware.com.

I had the same problem, and was mostly able to fix it by selecting one of the two DirectSound options for the sound from the Options menu (both seemed to work). The cutscenes now play fine when they come up during normal gameplay. Although the opening title clips (the Atari logo, Bioware logo, movie of the warrior getting attacked by the minotaur, etc that play every time you start the game) still have the sound cut in and out. But since I skip past those, it's not a big deal to me.

Also, I've noticed that trying to play movies from the main menu will only play the audio -- I just see the options menu and no video plays but I can hear the sound. Again, not a big deal since the cut scenes play perfectly fine when I trigger them during normal gameplay (and they're not exactly cinematic masterpieces that you'd want to watch over and over).

I have the same issue plus I can't see the character and npc models.
