Playing the latest version of The Witcher 2 (3.4.4.1) and right after Dandelion is done narrating and the cut scene of them on the boat with Iorveth is done it fades to black and that's it. I can faintly see what looks like a black screen burn-in image of the last thing that was on the screen (that graphic of the boat going upstream) but it's very faint.

The only possible solutions I've come across haven't worked. I've tried changing it to a 16:9 resolution, playing windowed. Playing on lowest specs. Choosing an earlier save and replaying to where I was. Disabling mods/DLC content. Etc.

I had no mods listed under the "Mod" section of the launcher but I do have an infinite carry mod and a mod that makes the witcher 2 dark edition weapons not change the combat screen. I might have one or two more but I don't think these are causing the issue.

I've searched for a solution to this problem extensively and on the rare occasion I've found someone else with a similar issue they seem to have sorted it out with a 16:9 screen resolution change or something else.

A strange thing about this is I remember having this issue about a year and a half ago and I believe I solved it (or at least got past it). I think I updated the game but I really don't remember at all how I got past it. Either way, I can't update the game any further now.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you already tried skipping the cutscene. Right-click when it starts and look for a "right click to skip" prompt at top left, then right-click again.

Yes, but as soon as that cut scene starts my cursor is a "+" sign and I can move it and everything but right clicking doesn't skip nor does any message come up indicating I can skip it. I assumed that was a cut scene that wasn't skippable (a between-Acts cut scene).

Okay. Maybe something is broken, hopefully not the savegame. I'd start with a fresh installation. Backup your saves, uninstall the game and delete every remaining file. Then re-install it, copy back your saves and try to get past the scene, even before installing the mods. If your safe doesn't load, install only the mods that are absolutely necessary to load it.

Well I gave it some thought and realized what you suggested would likely (hopefully) work but I haven't tried Roche's path in quite some time so I chose a save point before choosing Iorveth's path and instead chose Roche. After the Act 1 end cut scene Act 2 loaded completely fine. So it was just Iorveth's path that gave me the infinite black screen.

Thanks for you help and when I decide to give Iorveth's path another shot I'll reinstall the game and report back so others might benefit.

EDIT:

So I did reinstall the game but without uninstalling the game first- I just made sure the second install was to a different location. I then ran the game from the second install- it found my saves automatically (because it still looked in My Documents/Witcher 2) and loaded up my end of Act 1 save (Iorveth path). It let me get to Act 2. Then I saved the game and uninstalled my second Witcher 2 install- going back to my original install (with all of my mods/changes/etc). Worked perfectly.

For anybody in the future who is having the same issue with a black screen and has an Nvidia drive: I had the same issue of a black screen after the boat/end scene of Chapter 1. After trying a bunch of other popular solutions, I went to Nvidia Experience app and tried changing optimization settings from "OPTIMAL" to performance and launched the game. Then, I was able to get to the next cutscene (Dandelion monologue) and into Chapter 2.

(I have attached a pic with the settings screen)

NOTE: Seems like must have an Nvidia drive and Nvidia Experience downloaded
