Darrosquall: this is the best battle system in a modern rpg game. You must use everything, there is stats and everything...

mitrydates: As far as we discuss the RPG games it's not hard to prepare good battle system. Most of cRPG games do good in this matter. The problems usually start when we try to find a relatively good simulation of other skills, like social, technical or science skills.

So far there's only one game (actually two parts of it) I have in mind which adapted your character's abilities and traits. Fallout. You know what I'm talking about once you compare playing extreme idiot with very low Intelligence or a brain who knows everything. Skills mattered. Clicking the mouse was less important.
Fallout 1&2 are turn based, isometric view, 2D, not properly a good example. And we speak about modern rpg game, fallout1&2 does not modern rpg game.

mitrydates: After Prologue, which frustrated me last night and forced to turn off the computer I still wonder whether The Witcher 2 is still an RPG or simple action game.

One - I have to use my own skills instead Geralt's abilities in fighting and sneaking. Two - QTE which I hate as these are simple clicking for idiots, not RPG fans, especially when the game shows you what part of the mouse you should tap (am I THAT stupid not to get it?). And three - you cannot save the game whenever you want to; that's a huge slap in the face for all the role-playing fans!

It's my first impression. But if I knew all that yesterday I wouldn't buy the game on GOG at least (retail version can be sold again, digital - not).

Sorry, but too many good words were told about the game which in my opinion doesn't deserve it. I admit it may change with the story progress but for now I'm quite disappointed.
It never was a true RPG, but an action RPG or ARPG. The first one wasn't even much as ARPGs go, but it had a good story.

According to rpgwatch, this one has a bit better of an RPG system, but it's still basically a hack'n'slash plus ph47 13w7 ARPG with a good story.

Drakensang was the last real RPG to come out in a while... everything else has been an ARPG of one variation or another...
Witcher 1 was an rpg what the hell.

RPGs are about dressing your dude up, investing in stats, leveling up, getting new abilities and such, using potions and stuff for buffs, interacting with people, taking advantage of enemy weaknesses with fighting/oil types etc

The combat took a back road to the rest of the game and i'm fine with that.

This one the combat is more "visceral" but not overpowering in that it takes over the RPG aspect of the game. I'm fine with that too.

My major complaint is the UI.
its an rpg

there are many types of rpgs, and that is a GOOD thing. if all rpg's were the same that would suck

there are your turn based rpg's like final fantasies
there are you click adn watch rpg's like KOTOR and nwn's
and there are you action rpg's like witcher

i like and enjoy all three. please do not take away from one because you like another. dont' turn my action rpg into a click and watch rpg. there are plenty in each category, so if an action rpg is not your style, move on. don't change the game for those that like that

the thing that tricked people was that the first witcher was slightly a click adn watch. you basically ran up to an enemy and repeteadly clicked mouse button till they all dead.
