I love reading the Journal because of the additional details and reflection it provides for the story, but there are at least two issues which hinder the journal from working like it should:
- At the very end of the game, following the conversation with Letho, the Journal still gets updated. However, the player is unable to pause the game in order to read the recent updates satisfactorily- if the player chose to end matters with Letho by letting him walk, then the ending sequence with the ladybug proceeds even if the player is reading the Journal, and once the cutscene with Dandelion's voiceover initiates the Journal becomes inaccessible.
- Discrepancies with Journal narrative and game narrative. Here are the ones I found:
Returning Memories Act 2: In game Geralt remembers saving Letho from a slyzard, whereas in the Journal it is written he saved him against the poison of a manticore.
Vergen Besieged Act 2: It is mentioned in the journal that Phillipa poisoned Saskia- that is to say she initially poisoned her, and then "poisoned" her again by affecting her mind. The in game narrative which exposes Phillipa as the initial poisoner instead of Olcan/Stennis is missing.
Returning Memories Act 3: In game Letho only mentions that Geralt saved Yennerfer from the King of the Hunt, but the Journal mentions that Geralt saved both Yennfer's and Letho's life. Perhaps Letho omitted this detail on purpose?
Perhaps there are more "discrepancies", and honestly the ones I've stated are not egregious enough to ruin the story. For the sake of clarity and resolution, the entry regarding Phillipa is most annoying to me.
Please add to the list of discrepancies for posterity and (perhaps) future efforts for game fixes.
I am sorry if this topic has already been discussed- I've just started playing video games again after a long time, so the witcher universe is still new to me :)
