therpgstore: Hello i just read that The Witcher 2 won't have cards to collect , i know a lot of people will be happy with this , but what will happen with the funny erotic content will they cut it out too?, i mean like to flirt with anyone (with cheesy dialogue lol) and the unique npcs like Lady of the Lake and Morenn. Will they cut the erotic fun? anyone have an idea o.O

Indeed on that interview they say they was going to change the girl in the intro for a full dressed one. Is this true?

VoodooEconomist: First mention of condom-like contraception devices in the West would be arround the XVIth century. Considering that in some areas of TW universe science is more advanced and magick plays some part I bet there are valid and sure contraception methods, but they'd be too expensive for an average person - maybe nobility could afford them.

Anyway with with child mortality high contraception was seldom thought of before the XIXth century.
Actually there was plenty of thought about it, it just that they kinda got suppressed under the heel of the church in Europe for quite a few century.

There is even a plant that was a know contraceptive during the antiquity that was gathered to extinction during the middle age, it was one of the good traded on the silk road. That plant was basically the equivalent of the contraceptive pill in propriety (at least that was we guess from ancient text). If you want the name of it I can find it, just have to dig among the file on one of my older computer.

And one of the contraceptive in Chinese medicine are pill which one of the main ingredient is the solid that is left from distillation of female urine.

GoodGuyA: The sexual encounters are still in, even as reward (except in the Australian version), but the cards are gone. I personally think that's better since it made the experience feel less romantic and more "gotta catch um all".

Yes, there are multiple herbal and traditional contraceptives and sexual performance enchancers, but their effects are usually not as advertised. And as for the Church, the anti-contraceptive stance started in the XXth century, when efficient ones started to become cheap and available. Anyway we're a bit offtopic ;-)

Haha I think it IS interesting and not off-topic at all. I remember reading a medieval story about a man "disgraced by God" who was unable to have children. How on earth they knew that is beyond me - but apparently, he was pretty popular among the (mostly single) women in town because of that (fun without any potential offspring) until the men (husbands and fathers) gathered and got him hanged for his "sins". The Witcher reminded me of this story - back then, women who got pregnant before marriage were outcasts so I'm not surprised if someone who can't give children would be popular. I don't imagine any herbal remedy would be efficient enough to be used outside of wedlock, what with the scandals it could cause.

In The Witcher 1, you get so many references about Witchers being popular with women but it's not directly hinted at why. Sure, they're strong, skilled, dangerous, etc. but there's plenty of those walking around inside the Witcher universe that aren't Witchers so you'd wonder if his infertility is really the clincher.

Not only the infertility, but the immunity to disease and bountiful experience are 2 other nice selling points.

Being immune to disease does nt mean one can't be a carrier. Read up on your STD's guys and gals! ;-)
