Greetings,
If you, like me, have a strange issue when patching The Geralt 2: Commiter of Regicide that make the launcher refuse to takeoff (edit: This includes running a patch only to get the "incompatible game version" error), here's what I did to fix the issue:
1) Install the game, Patch it to 1.1. The launcher no longer works.
2) open the configurator.exe (DRIVE_LETTER:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\The Witcher 2\bin
3) Change some settings, save. The launcher now works. (Huzzah)
4) Apply the next patch and repeat until the game is fully patched and working. (Got from 1.0 to 1.3 with this method)
5) Get your Geralt on.
6) Ragequit at Kayran (optional)
