Hello.

I kindly request some help in this matter, hopefully somebody might have some insights on the matter.

So I bought the GOTY GOG edition, and I'm having some serious crashes.

I've played it for several hours, then in Velen I suddenly crashed so hard that my whole PC froze, had to reset, after which the BIOS appeared at start, I saved and quit, everything worked fine after the start up. Then I played again for like an hour or something, no problems, then it crashed while being in the in-game menu for like 20 seconds, just like that. 3rd and 4th time I crashed specifically at the 2nd wraith fight during the Baron main quest with the botchling, game was still going with a frozen screen, then after a little while the game closed and Win 10 crashed, rebooted itself. It couldn't even reboot itself the 1st time, had to reset.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU Intel Core i7 7700 @ 3.60GHz
RAM 16.0GB Dual-Channel Unknown @ 1200MHz
GPU 3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (MSI)
Storage 111GB KINGSTON SV300S37A120G (SSD); 931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 (SATA)

Had nothing like this before with my old rig using 980 GTX, nor in any games before, ever.

Thanks for any help attempt in advance.

Howdy,

I've recently had some crashing issues myself.
What Win10 feature update are you currently running on? (press ctrl + R and then type "winver").

I was stuck on "1803" and it seems to have broken the game (as well as many other things).
I reformatted back to 1709 and the game runs fine for me.

Tom.
Are your other games working fine? This kind of issues can point to a power supply problems. What PSU are you using? Also the VRAM on your graphics card makes me wonder. GTX 1080 Ti should have 11 GB of VRAM, not 3 GB.

Hi there.
If you have any over-clocked components (GPU,CPU,RAM), I suggest resetting their clocks to their factory defaults.
Also if you have tampered with your BIOS, specifically with the PCI-E bus clocks values, I recommend reverting all the changes you made.
Other than that, the Windows 10 OS is known to cause persistent inconsistencies with hardware drivers and software performance.

What driver of gpu you have? nvidia drivers 417.xxx have bug which cause PC bsod/freeze during Witcher 3 416.16 and 416.34 have bug which cause texture flickering in Witcher 3

Unfortunately not.
Games on Windows 10 seem to work properly or not, based on the buld version of the OS and what updates are installed.
No matter the GPU and vendor, different releases of drivers work better with certain games, while others cause new issues to surface.
I suggest trying out different releases of drivers, BIOS, removing Windows 10 updates e.t.c., because Windows 10 still face many functionality issues. In my opinion Windows 7,8,8.1 are much more stable, reliable and flexible Microsoft OSs.

I use nvidia 399.24 version with my msi gtx 1080, so far so good(win 10 1809), I tested with 3 drivers from 4xx, but was not ok(today, nvidia published another version, maybe this will be better).
I confirm 378.78 nvidia drivers fixes all the freezes in Witcher 3.

You can try 399.24 too.
