I have noticed a few people have ran in to this game breaking bug. Following the Echoes of the past quest I elected to complete some markers in the area as opposed to continue on with Yen immediately, I didn't realise it at the time but the missing persons quest failed to start and all I am left with is the note to find if Ciri is in skellige in the 'in Ciri's footsteps' main quest.

Has anyone that has encountered this bug manged to find a way to fix it, I have several hours of gameplay since Echoes and in the current state the game is broken.

I'm having this same issue as well. I chose not to go to Hindarsfjall with Yen, but I didn't receive any quest to follow-up with her. I checked all over the island, in her room in Kaer Trolde, and all over the coast line of both Ard Skellig and Hindarsfjall. However, there is still no option to start the Missing Persons Quest.
I spent hours trying to resolve this problem unfortunately several people have reported the problem and no one has found a fix, the save is broken. In my case I had done quite a few quests so couldn't even roll back to an earlier save.

Best thing to do is keep landmark manual saves. I lost about 30hrs on this one.

Strange though, my first playthrough the only real issues I came up against were the signposts going AWOL from my map every now and then but the issue usually fixed itself by closing the game down and loading it back up. Also a few input problems like the character refusing to dive while swimming, also fixed by reload. My newer playthrough on a harder difficulty has been fraught with glitches, I am running some mods - mostly just cosmetic but I did also get the fast travel from anywhere and no witcher sense zoom, but I have already encountered a myriad of problems, two of them game breaking if you didn't have an earlier save.

I just managed to fix the quest problem by running around the magic explosion area in which you and Yen explore during Echoes of the Past. On the southeast section of this zone there seems to be a trigger zone, as the quest Missing Persons started.
Maybe I'm paranoid, but on evenings or days where I make a lot of progress in any game, I tend to email the last save file to myself. That way I have it 30 days in the cloud, and I get a "progress log" in my inbox. Certainly not the quickest way to sync save files with a cloud, but something like that I can only recommend...
Hey guys! Ive found a solution that works for me! To add onto StridingPants' post, the method of returning to where yennifer lifts the tree up actually works. I have posted the images of where to find the spot of the lifted tree at Ard Skellig.

Enjoy!

Is there still no fix to this at all????? This is beyond game breaking for me.. My only save before this (I have no clue why) is from the beginning of the game. There are almost no posts about this anywhere but it is obviously not a unique glitch considering this post exists, so this should already be fixed. Is there any way to manually activate the quest through console commands?
I emailed them about the problem so hopefully they will fix this in the next patch!
They responded with a solution, I'm downloading now so I haven't yet tested it.

In other words: dude just load the save before the bug, but try the old verify game cache thing that you probably already tried before you contacted us so maybe just do it all over again.
Same problem here, can confirm that RageTwisted and StridingPants' posts are correct. Missing Persons was not in my quest log and I played for over a month without realizing it -- clearing out most of Skellige and all remaining sidequests. Very relieved when I was able to trigger the quest completion just by running back through the area, and then Yen was waiting at the next quest location.

The location it triggered for me was due west of the little thumb of ocean (see images).

got the same issue. but for me the quest doenst trigger , when i walk around in that area. is there another solution. played like 20hours without realizing it. have no save :(. also did allrdy the quest in freyas garden with the werewolf (without yeneffer ofc) :/
Hi,
Can't help but I must ask you if, since a few months, you have a solution for this breaking game bug. It did exactly the same for me but running in the area, going exactly where you guys are showing on your maps, and praying the god of gamers, didn't trigger the "Missing person" quest.
Unfortunately, I'm out of save before this bug - I overwrite the old saves when I was exploring and I wasn't even in Skellige for the last I have...

1/Is this a patch to run which can fix it ?
2/Can we force the quest to trigger by a console command ? (that's why I love Bethesda : so many bugs, so many solutions, so many mods...)

Thank you a lot,
Wow this is old.... but still happens and running around there DID work for me
