MercilessHobo: Wow they had to stop selling the game for now? That's intense. Didn't hear about that. My copy still won't get past the custcene after the bus evacuation(if you've played it or seen gameplay you know that's the beginning). Thanks for the support bud. I'll check out that link and see what it has to offer as far as tweaks go. Even if they don't solve the crashing there seems to be some nice graphical improvements available. Thank goodness I have other games too from my old PC gaming days.
GrayBlondie: Yeah, it was unprecedented as far I know. Rest assured you're not alone on the Arkham issues. No problem at all - sometimes PC gaming can be a headache. It's nice to have people point us toward fixes if possible. Good luck!
Tried every tweak on that link you shared, improved the graphics a bit specifically in grass density which really bothered me before(seemed like there was almost no grass and way too many plants). Clean install of 353.38. Did all the crash "fixes". Nothing worked at all. Cranked my 970 SSC back down by 200mhz(10mhz below factory 970s, running at 1167mhz) and it's running smoothly. Getting an average of 40fps with essentially Ultra Plus settings.
MercilessHobo: Nothing wrong except losing several frames per second and not getting your money's worth on your GPU when you paid slightly more for an SC version. A game should be able to run without crashing without you having to limit your hardware. What is it with game companies thinking games not working is okay? Witcher 3 is crashing ever few hours for countless people, and Batman can't even get through the first scene(another big reported problem). I will wait for the next patch and if it still doesn't work I might try downclocking. But it's ridiculous that even has to be considered as an option.
And in case anyone is worried I'm taking my frustration out on you guys trust me I'm not. I'm very grateful for the replies I've gotten and appreciate the support. I rarely see such great support among communities so it is a nice change of pace. I am frustrated with the game developers and Nvidia's programmers.
elldaz: No dramas, just trying to get you playing the game. Ihad no choice but to wind my GPU back for DAI it would crash every 20 minutes or so otherwise. I have not had to do it for W3.
Wanted to say thanks to you too. I marked GrayBlondie's answer as the solution since he gave a link to many more fixes and some tweaks that I found really useful, including the grass density and shadow fixes, but you were both right. For some idiotic reason it detected my SSC card as being overclocked and was crashing the game(even though a single game shouldn't crash because of a stable overclock to begin with). Cranked it from about 1350mhz down to 1167mhz and it hasn't crashed in the several hours I've been playing. Got some better visuals from it too. Hopefully they will fix that problem and I will be able to reset my clockspeeds again. I guess for now any time I play W3 I'll have to revert to a -200mhz profile. Game really is great once you get it running properly. Thanks again bud.
