jalister: Imagine an unlikely scenario of EA buying GOG

MIK3K: Just use the GOG client. One of the features says -

Backup copy download
Want to backup your purchases? We get it. For all games, you can download a DRM-free backup installer that you can save to an external disk, drive or cloud.

I would imagine once you tie your hard copy to a gog.com account you can do this.

Demoniko: That is ok, but still this is DRM and is a shitty move on CDPR side. That is ok for digital distribution (bc you want people to have a preload for people with slow connections to be happy), but certainly not ok for physical distribution. I do not care much today, because I have 100 Mbps connection, but in the past similar move from Valve with HL2 made me so pissed off so I hate steam even today (I bought the game for ~2000 rub when pirated version was sold for 100 rub, then I needed to download steam which costed me another 2000+ rub and more than hour on my mobile CSD connection - the only way to connect to internet in my place at the time, then I needed to download a huge patch, that would've costed me more than 20000 rub and another several hours or more likely days to download it; instead I just bought pirated copy; that's means that game costed me ~$150 and would've costed more than $800, and what I really got is shitty $3 pirated game in the end).
Indeed. Backup copy or not. It renders the retail box copy useless without an authentication of some kind.. even if they were to create a little downloadable file that you could use to unlock the retail box copy at a later stage, it still doesn't change the fact that the retail box copy has DRM that prevents its use without some kind of unlock/activation.

Maydawn: What the hell are you talking about ? Seriously.

First of all, GOG is / owned by CDPR. Also, people getting early copies of the game aren't up to CDPR.

2nd, lack of DRM doesn't mean what you think it means. Not having DRM means you can play the game while not connected to the internet. It means no online authentication while playing / logging in to the game. They can't control shops sending early copies of console versions, but they can control how and when it's released on PC.

3rd, stop fucking crying. Really. Are you like 12 ? "They got it first :((". This isn't kindergarden. Every system has it's ups and downs. Some people got it a week early. Wow. It's so much of a big deal after waiting 2+ years for the game I'm canceling my order and going to pirate it. You'd have graphics on PC console players can't even dream of, with a downgrade or not. And that's without even mentioning the unlimited FPS you can play on.

Grow the fuck up. Life isn't fair. Be happy you get a AAA PC game DRM free, from a company that clearly respects and loves gamers. If this was any other company, you'd get fuck faced like people got with Assassins Creed, or any other EA game that was unplayable until like a month after release.
Wow some common sense are you real? Please enter the captcha to prove you are human....

If you pass kudos to this post!

Also you could call it DRM or getting the game on the release date (unlike console owners who have it early have got it from shops who do not care about release dates!!) Chill once release date comes you are free to do as you wish, you dont even have to buy it!

I have been defending CDPR but this move about patches for the physical copy is SHITTY move on their part. I hope someone from CDPR gives an explanation about this one. They will lose the trust of a lot of gamers because of this.

Is not only for physical copies... Also for digital ones.

Demoniko: Yes, that is DRM of some sort. It means that even if you have a physical copy of a game you don't actually own a game, you still need connection to get a day 1 patch.
Of course you will, how else are you gonna get it, have CDPRed deliver it to your door?

Well, for digital copies it's understandable. If you buy a digital copy like I did, you assume that you will download the game anyway. They just enabled us to preload the game so we can jump on it immediately on release date instead of downloading the whole game.
