Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (2009)

by Climax Studios, Konami
Genres:Adventure
Themes:Horror, Survival
Game modes:Single player
Story:Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is the seventh installment in the Silent Hill survival horror series, and a stand-alone reimagining of the original Silent Hill video game. Once again, you will cast Harry Mason searching across the haunted town for his missing daughter Cheryl. Through his exploration, Harry will come across objects and recordings that tell some of the history of Silent Hill. New to the series are a depiction of Silent Hill's demonic alter-dimension as a world of ice, and the removal of weapons from the game: when the monsters come out, Harry must literally run for his life. Between scenes, the game will cut to a psychiatrist's office, who asks personal questions about Harry and his past experiences. The game will then alter itself based on the player's responses, changing characters and lines of dialog to something intended to be more personally uncomfortable.Show more

Not a too scary game, but definitively an interesting game by it's story with a great plot twist and containing one of the most unique gameplay features as it is the psychological profile. We really need a re-release of the game as it is not available anywhere to buy and second-hand copies are extreamly overpriced almost making it an obscure game or a "hidden gem"
I played it on the Nintendo Wii and after so many years I want to be able to play it digitally on the computer. It gives a nice re imagining to the first game and is a nice little change.
I kept playing this silent Hill game on my psp. finishing it the first time at a hotel that was far up in the woods. It was the few silent hill games I owned to manage to truly understood that it was not like the other silent hill games. It had its own thing going on of the first story that was ever told of the first game and gave me a pleasant surprise at what it was. It would be night to officially own it on GoG, as my psp is officially busted since I gave it to a sibling and suddenly did nothing with it.

For me simply the best Silent Hill outside of Team Silent. In addition to being a very good replay of the first Silent Hill, it is also a very interesting game to play at least once in your life but which unfortunately is increasingly difficult to have because it is not available on any platform and the Physical copies of the game are quite expensive.

I played this game years ago on PSP. Despite it doesn't have combat mechanics in this game but the story and gameplay are successfully make me submerge into the game. I remembered when I was spend hours a day just playing this game, trying to solve the mystery and following story that pretty much interesting to me. It has different flavor to another silent hill game because it's missing the combat mechanics but still remain the atmosphere of silent hill series. I'd liked to buy and own this copy of the game legally and play this game again on pc since buying console game from PS2 or Wii are nearly impossible and if I found it online it's pretty damn expensive.
Zdecydowanie warto.
"THIS HAS SPOILERS" READ WITH CAUTION. This is the first Silent Hill game that decided to remove violence and focus more on the story/psychological aspects. Its not a remake, but a reimagining of the first game and to be honest, I actually loved it, yes I will admit the "Chase Scenes" were the most convoluted, confusing and most annoying sequences in the game still Silent Hill Shattered Memories holds a special place in my heart. Though I feel like everyone who has played it has their own personal problems, with Chase Scenes where you'd think it would be like 2 or 3. No, Its the entire god damn game. Its the first walking simulator game I've played, where its always the same "Point A to B" but in where other games fails, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, succeeds, all thanks to its original and fascinating story. SH1 was all about looking for Cheryl after a car crash in the abandoned town of Silent Hill, filled with nightmarish monsters. There's no context on what happened to the town and its folks, but just a cult trying to revive a god. Depending of the endings, one of the worse ones explains how Harry died in the car crash making the entire game a dream of a dying man. Silent Hill Shattered Memories gets rid of the cult story, but keeps that same ending, where Harry has to look for her missing daughter after the car crash in a blizzard storm. Which finally makes sense why no one is around. (There's a blizzard.) In Between sequences, you talk to Kaufmann the Psychologist and every interactions you make with him changes the way that Harry Interacts/see with other characters. Now you'd think the person talking to Kaufmann would be Harry, but instead its Cheryl 18 years after the crash still denying her Father's death, where she saw him as a great man. but all of your Interactions will show the "Real Harry Mason" whether he was a great father, an alcoholic, an unfaithful husband, or a lazy writer, all on the verge of divorce. That game is amazing, 7/10.
Why Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Deserves to Be on GOG and Why It’s an Amazing Game Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is one of the most unique and emotionally resonant entries in the Silent Hill series, offering a psychological reimagining of the original 1999 classic. Released in 2009 for the Wii, and later for PSP and PS2, this game stood out by focusing less on combat and more on atmosphere, storytelling, and psychological horror — making it a true standout in survival horror history. What makes Shattered Memories so amazing is how it tailors the horror experience to the player. From the very beginning, you’re psychologically profiled through questions in therapy sessions, and the game adapts to your responses — from character designs to dialogue, environments, and even how scenes play out. It becomes your Silent Hill experience, which was revolutionary for the genre at the time and still rarely seen in modern horror games. The game also replaces traditional combat with pure evasion — increasing the tension and helplessness. This decision emphasized atmosphere and psychological storytelling over action, making every chase and puzzle feel more intense and grounded. Combined with a hauntingly beautiful score by Akira Yamaoka and a touching, twist-filled narrative, Shattered Memories delivers a horror experience that’s as emotional as it is eerie. Bringing Silent Hill: Shattered Memories to GOG would ensure this underappreciated gem is preserved and accessible to a new generation of players. Its innovative mechanics, brilliant storytelling, and unique approach to horror absolutely earn it a place on the platform — and in the pantheon of psychological horror classics.
I've played this game so many times when I was young. It was my first Silent Hill ever and I'm still in love with it to this day. It might not have the best gameplay, but the story is so goooood! I need it on gog 🥺

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
