I got a bunch of ads as well. Only site I really visit on Google Chrome is GOG. Occasionally visit Googlemail.

I use firefox and another laptop (linux) for everything else.

I redeemed Crusader King's 2 for free and after it went through got ads through a tab at the top of the browser below the bar.

It ONLY happened when I redeemed a free game.

When I went and bought DLC (for said Crusader Kings), no ads popped up. A request for a survey did, but no ads.

I don't think it's something I picked up as the only places I go on this browser is GOG and Gmail.

I do most of my stuff on the Linux Laptop (GOG seems to work best with a Windows machine and Google Chrome which is why I use this for it, otherwise I'm normally using the Linux Laptop).

So, with that, I think it has something to do with free games being redeemed (mine wasn't via Amazon, it was via the free offer on the site itself). It may not hit all the time (I've only experienced it once), and it didn't appear when I actually bought something.

I never saw a thing like this. But I do believe it comes from GOG, after all it does recognize that the user was on a code redeem page.

I do wonder however, why they would not show adds for their own products.

yes, exctly. and that deal has to include gOg, as it is on their website it takes place. and that's perfectly fine. Amazon and gOg have made a deal (where do you think Amazon get gOg keys from?), which as part of it includes some rvenue from adds on key redemtion.


edit - and as FlavioV points out (https://www.gog.com/forum/general/amazon_prime_games_and_drm/post106) activating it works as a different package then the "normal" game, so it is the Prime key that activates it. you may end up with duplicate games in your game library, and it does not shown as owned in the store.

I've never had those (or any other ads) shown when redeeming a GOG code (via Amazon Prime or otherwise).

That 5-day plan is two-thirds of my monthly groceries expenditure. I'd definitely grab that £100 off and eat like a king for a week. And the free case of wine too, if there's no catch. I don't even drink wine; I'd gift it someone. As far as unwanted ads go, they could do a lot worse with their offers.

N.B.: screenshot is just me checking out their site. I haven't seen these things when redeeming a code; they seem to be UK-exclusive.

Thanks for the clarification. If it helps you make a few cents per ad, then that's fine with me, 'cause I want GOG to do well.
I wouldn't say it enhanced my shopping experience though, if I'm perfectly honest. There's one thing that I will say though, if GOG is now going to advertise Honey via ROKT, then GOG and Honey should fix their rewards calculator to recognise different currencies lol. Everything gets recorded in Zloty, but the number remains the same to the local currency.

So you basically get a quarter or less than you should do, depending on your currency.

Like if you spend £30 on GOG, it thinks you spent 30zl.

Nothing happens when I click Cookie Declaration at the bottom of the page. I've tried 3 different browsers with default settings and no add-ons.
Seems par for the course. "To improve user experience" they added the mandatory chatbot. Then they removed the GOG Galaxy bug tracker, forcing everyone to use it.
