It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

inox: It doesn't work while you're on the forum, it works on the front-page. We'll fix it.
In my case - Firefox - it doesn't work on the front page either.

Edit: Wait! I'm sorry, never mind, uBlock disabled it on the front page. hides

It didn't work on the front page either, but now I see why: both settings for Pop-ups / redirects and Ads are blocked in my browser by default.

Here's my 5 Cents: Ads usually do not "enhance" my shopping experience, they rather sadden it.

Clownski_: This feature is visible only to those of our users that gave us their marketing consent, which you can opt out at any time by accessing the Cookie Declaration page in the footer of GOG.COM.
An opt-out, hidden at the bottom of a page, obscured behind a click, does not sound like consent to me.

There is a large and ever-growing number of feature requests your company could implement that would truly improve your customers' shopping experience. However, I'm afraid that this new feature isn't on that list.

Ads are not features, except in an Orwellian dictionary; for the majority out there, they are one thing and one thing only: a major nuisance.

Catventurer: No. I'm suggesting that there's some deal going on here related the codes Amazon gives away that the advertisements need to display..
avatar
amok: yes, exctly. and that deal has to include gOg, as it is on their website it takes place. and that's perfectly fine. Amazon and gOg have made a deal (where do you think Amazon get gOg keys from?), which as part of it includes some rvenue from adds on key redemtion.

edit - and as FlavioV points out (https://www.gog.com/forum/general/amazon_prime_games_and_drm/post106) activating it works as a different package then the "normal" game, so it is the Prime key that activates it. you may end up with duplicate games in your game library, and it does not shown as owned in the store.
Okay. Look I was just suggesting a theory, not trying to start a debate or anything because I'm not going to loose any sleep over it. So at this point, I think you just want to hear that Steam is awesome.

The main https://www.gog.com page is where I tried it. It doesn't work.

Clownski_: Hey folks, a few words of context from our side:
We are currently testing a new feature on our redeem page with the aim of enhancing your shopping experience and providing added value in quality free offers and trials to users. This feature is visible only to those of our users that gave us their marketing consent, which you can opt out at any time by accessing the Cookie Declaration page in the footer of GOG.COM.
We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion these tests may have caused and want to thank you for your continued trust in GOG.
The "currently testing" sentence and the very last sentence just reads like boilerplate marketing-speak to me. That said...

If GOG makes a bit of extra money from these ads, that's nice. However, using ads on this site does seem, to me, somewhat "trashy" and fairly desperate. At the very least, below the ads there should be text/explanation for how to opt out of seeing them.

Maybe if the deals were actually related to games, gaming accessories, and computer hardware, they'd at least make sense.

Extremely so.

It reminds me of popular sites / browser extensions / mobile apps / etc that the original author moved on from and sold to someone who's going to do nothing for it except inject some trashy ads. Or businesses that stopped innovating and generating anything of value long since and just started squeezing what final juice can be squeezed by aggressive ads.

I can totally see why some people assumed it was adware/malware..

a) Thanks @Clownski_ for at least confirming I wasn't making things up :)

b) I wouldn't have minded so much with some forewarning. Maybe an email out to those with marketing consent given, to forewarn us that it's being tested and reminder of how we can change our preference.

c) I get needing to make some extra money. That ads aren't "intrusive" as they often can be. I think it was the lack of warning that caught me more than anything else.
Cookie Declaration does nothing when clicked. Broken on purpose to not enable/disable?

Bad sense of humor or just broken for who knows why?

Thought I should mention it.

I had to shut off my adblocker temporarily to get it to work.

What you say is not true though. Cookie consent pop-up, exactly the same as you can access through "obscured click", appears every time you visit site in new browser for first time or delete all cookies. And it's really hard to miss. Well, unless you block such things, like for me uBlock Origin hides all cookie pop-ups by default.
