ElPrimordial: Wow, it happened the same to me with one of my computers, around the same time. I wish I could help you but finally I had to send it to a technician... I wonder if he would be able to fix it...
Luckily, I had a motherboard that fit the cpu, so that's what solved it. The pc works fine now.

Hmmm static electricity...

I never wear an anti-static gear, i ground myself before touching anything though (I find the computer case makes for a good item i can touch since it's on hand when working on hardware).

But yeah... static electricity... 50,000 to 200,000 volts in a fraction of a second on hardware designed for 5v-50v...

Ah. Well, all the best. I would also help you but it would involve checking all the things I listed.
