Not sure what it's all about?

Have you heard the word?
The word is that we get the chance to work with Larian Studios to design an NPC character in their about-to-win-kickstarter sequel, <span class="bold">Divinity: Original Sin 2</span> - a unique in-game character, the #GOGHero, complete with a backstory and private motivations to intertwine with the players' fates.

Well. YOU get to design them.

Because the more is always the merrier, we're handing the #GOGHero over to you, the gamers, and everyone is welcome to pitch in with their ideas! The entire gaming community is invited to a massive brainstorming session with Larian Studios & GOG.com, and to submit their own ideas for the upcoming character.

For a touch of authenticity, Larian is providing official guidelines to work with - just like the ones they use during development. Fun, but optional:

--Each character has 3 major traits: Vanity, aggression, pride, self-confidence, racist towards dwarves/elves/humans/orcs/sourcerers...
--1 Quirk or Eccentricity: A predilection for dogs in leather boots, refuses to face north for religious reasons, in denial about his singing.
--One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound: Something traumatic in their background for which they are compensating in some way, or which drives them to do something normal people don't. His wife was killed in a tragic accident and now he's a kamikaze detective with a death wish. His parents were murdered by a criminal so now he's a vigilante crime-fighter. He's terrified of intimacy so treats women terribly. That kind of thing.
--Race: Human, dwarf, elf, lizard, undead.
--Background: Gender, age, job function, loyalties.

Throughout the brainstorm, the team from Larian, including creative director Swen Vincke among others, will be joining in us to browse, weigh in, and search for inspiration! Finally, when the time comes, they'll design three final characters combining the awesomest ideas, complete with official concept art and backstory. Once again, the #GOGHero will be placed in your hands with an official vote to chose the favorite champion from the three proposals. The winning character will go on to become the community-made, full-featured NPC in Divinity 2: Original Sin.

paladin181: Great... What about the Divinity Enhanced edition? Is that still a thing?
Yes, it's scheduled to be released alongside the console versions on 27 October.
-Name: Eliza
-Race: Lizard
-Job: Picking flowers and kill from time to time
Story:
She is a lizard but instead of living like all of her kind she prefers to sit in the meadow and collect beautiful flowers , and occasionally invades travelers. So please help her in collecting the flowers before she kills and you.
3 major traits: Knowledgeable, skilled in martial arts and sorcery and amiable .

Quirk or Eccentricity: Cannot draw at all. His pieces make you faint at the sight of it, but believes he is a master of the art

--One Fear/Loss/Block/Wound: He always displays a piece of ware that he never sells. If anyone is interested in buying it, he says it is not for sale. Rumour has it that it is a memento of his late wife. This piece of ware was supposed to a gift for her upon his return. However, upon arriving at his house, he found her dead and his home wrecked. He has since tracked and killed those responsible, but refuses to accept that his wife is dead. He displays this piece of ware in the hopes that he will see her one day on his travels and give it to her.

Race: Elven

Background: Male, age is a mystery, travelling merchant, no loyalties.
What interests me most is how are GOG staff going to settle who gets the other extras.

I can see it now GOG staff duelling for branded hoodie and collectors edition box set etc.

not to mention the unlikely but highly inappropriate Dildoity Original Sin item
https://larian.uservoice.com/forums/322488-collector-s-edition-suggestions/suggestions/9970944-dildoity-original-sin

Oh god just had an idea duelling dildos. I think my post needs to be down voted before it corrupts the masses.
Janosik
Name: Gerald of Greacis
race: human
gender: male
age: 21

background:
Gerald belongs to a noble family in the city of Greacis. Sheltered in his castle, he spend all of his free time reading books about adventurers. His last book was about an old man who regretted that he never had an adventure in his whole life. Gerald wants to avoid this fate, so he leaves his home secretly and he wants to join the divine order, because he heart that they seek recruits to find and defeat evil sourcerers.

Interaction with him:
At some point you will meet him and he asks you where he can join the divine order. He does not know that you are a sourcerer (or what a sourcerer is at all). You have some options:
- show him the way to the divine order. You have to fight him later as member of the order.
- Show him the way to the next town and tell him to join the police (or guards, however they call themselves). He will believe that this is the divine order and the town will become a save place.
- Tell him to seek the divine order in the wilderness. Later you meet him fighting some monsters. You can watch him die or help him.
- Give him a source artefact and pretend it is something else. Then show him the way to the order or the next town. You will find him later as prisoner of the order and he was being purged. (In all these cases you may also have the option to give him a harmless item).
- If he dies you meet him in the hall of echoes and he will be very unfriendly because he died because of you.

traits: extreme naive, wants to be a hero and help others, good fighter
Quirk or Eccentricity: He carries lots of things with him, including his teddy bear, a large bed and a tent. He wants to go out on adventure but he does not want to miss the comfort of home.
fear: He is afraid that he will never have a real adventure in his life.

note: If there is a town that starts with G in Rivellon, you can use this one. Gerald is from the witcher.
Background/current occupation:
Archivist for museum or library. Attempts to preserve and/or restore an item's original condition. Sees value in things that most others would consider insignificant or worthless. As a result, has developed a broad general knowledge, can read several languages, can identify many obscure items, or at least discern a hint as to an item's nature or origins.

Has Luddite tendencies. Fears new technology/magic can and will be used for evil, but is ok with the use of well established technologies/magic once ample time has passed for them to be fully sussed out and understood.
Major Traits

- Very prideful, but in an understated way, as boasting and overt sarcasm is something he considers beneath him.
- Extols the virtues of spartan living, but will go off on the most extravagant benders every now and then, to his great regret.
- Subtly racist towards nonhumans, but not in a mean-spirited or hateful way. Believes every stereotype about other races, but tries to be gracious about it - after all, it's only in their nature. How can he hold it against them?

Quirk

- LOVES thunderstorms/lightning. It makes him very happy, to a somewhat unsettling degree.

Fear

- Not living up to his own impossibly high ideals, as derived from a rigorous philosophical framework and his firmly held belief in nobless oblige.

Race

- Human Male

Background

- A trained botanist, he left it behind for a career in sculpting. It is not going well. He comes from a very wealthy family (old money), but only gets in touch with the estate when he runs out of money. Has received an extensive education, particularly in the fields of philosophy and art history. Actually got married under a false name once - his wife doesn't know who he really is or where he is. In his mid-fifties.

Name: Gurgar Oswald Gearwrench

3 Major traits: Hoarder, tinkerer, likes to mentor people in ancient knowledge

1 Quirk: Fearless to the point of suicidal.

One loss: After breaking a wizard's magical item, he is cursed with immortallity to find the only thing that can kill him. He is deadly fearful and distrust magic users.

Race: Undead Male Dwarf

Background: Gurgar was a normal dwarf merchant living the normal life until he caught a glimpse of a magical item belonging to a powerful witch. It was a just a mere toy to the witch but it was a huge wonder for the young dwarf. After many years later, he found the witch and the magical toy again. Determined to get his hand on it, Gurgar tried to steal it from the witch but he was caught in the act. He also dropped and broke the item. The witch, horrified that the last keepsake of her dead child was broken, cursed Gurgar with immortallity. His spirit was chained to his body until he could find a replacement item for the witch. So began the journey of Gurgar the tomb raider, crypt crawler and ruin ramsacker to find magical trinkets to appease the witch. His immortality does not come with quick healing however, he has to endure pain and heal just like a normal bloke. After years and long years of living, he had a disdain for his own life and gladly throws himself under the bus if it could help in the quest. The magical items that he found in his neverending quest were sent back to magical guilds, learning his lesson to not mess around with them anymore. He no longer remembers his age, but he serves as adventures saint, helping and giving his knowledge and body to help adventurers. Gurgar is only concern with his own quest having lived past political and race loyalties. The sad thing is, the witch had already did a long time ago.
Name: Kaff Fhaen

Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 35

Traits: Insolent, Tough, Selfish and a touch of dry humor. Good with rhymes, and unaware of it. Kaff is known to be bold, and somewhat insolent, but is also known for getting things done. He will gladly take any task, as long as the payment is adequate. He’ll take gold (to buy coffee), or he’ll take coffee.

Quirk: When Kaff gets angry (which happens a lot), he starts muttering in rhymes. He does not seem aware of this. This can lead to some awkward situations, such as for example when he is offered insufficient payment for a job. He will literally stand there staring into nothing, while muttering articulate rhymes.

Trauma: On one faithful day, 15, maybe 17 years ago, Kaff was travelling through the forest after a successful quest for a prosperous baron in a fancy castle. He had received a big bag of Java as payment for a job well done, and was looking forward to drinking it. He never got to taste that coffee. He was assailed by a band of bearded brigands who stole all his coffee, and from that day, he swore vengeance and death upon all bearded figures. The townsmen are aware of this grudge. Often, his arrival in towns is announced in advance, so they have time to shave.

Background: A freelancer, fighting against his coffee addiction. Loyal to no man, no king, and no gods, only to the voice in his head. His loyalty can of course be bought, for a outrageous, yet fair price. His profession is taking bounties and quests, from those who can afford it. His skills in combat are excellent, as the caffeine makes him perceptive and alert, and his reaction time is above average. His sword is made of a secret alloy, hand-crafted for him by his resourceful uncle. Kaff painted red stripes on his trusty sword, to no other purpose than to terrify his opponents. Being the relentless killer that he is, he would have no trouble defending his coffee, if the infamous bearded brigands had assailed him in present day.
Ealdor Grungir

Race: Human

Age: 39

Gender: Male

Job: Hunter

Major Traits
- Licentious; He's always looking for tail and he re-produces something akin to a rabbit/
- Stereotypical; He believes all the racial stereotypes about dwarves, lizards, and undead, and will do whatever it takes to ensure these stereotypes are real.
- Prideful; Believes he is the best bowman around these parts, and won't take smack about it.

Quirk
- Left leg and foot replaced with a metal rod, makes him look 'piratey'

Wound
- A long scar from his forehead down to just above his lip, given to him by a bear when he was a 'youngun'

Background:

Ealdor was born a tough little shit, to his mom Hilde and father Caldan, learning hunting and archery from his pa. At a young age, Ealdor was a fearless little tyke who was known to take down bear and wolf, getting a car and his metal leg during these young times. After having his shit stuffed in by a bear, Ealdor calmed down a bit - A BIT. He picked up a few bad habits, being licentious and having a stereotypical racism due to experiences abroad from home. Ealdor would eventually return home, taking his pa's position as the town's hunter after Caldan's mysterious death. He's hunted some of the most deadly and exotic creatures of the land, and is a self-affirmed bad-ass.
Female Dwarf Thief

Traits: Avarice, Vanity, Rotund (to carry more coins) but very agile.

Quirk: OCD on coins not touching each other in a pouch. Wears enchanted leather armor, with 1/2 gold coin sized individual pouches in line and layered. inside and outside of armor. The enchantment locks the coins into the slots and prevents the coins from falling out of their pouches during combat, moving or loss to light fingered individuals. Coins can be removed with a voice command, but only her voice.

Fear: of being destitute and poor. The quirk and fear comes from being raised in a abusive human orphanage where she was teased and robbed relentlessly due to her being unable to gather her coins into a solitary hiding spot, but was always able to steal them back.

Interaction with character: She gives character a gold coin (fake coin or a fools gold coin, just not a real gold coin) that starts a quest chain for a rare item, armor. For being loyal, and not trying to rob or mislead her.

Race: Undead (you don't get much older than dead)

And a backstory some metaphor about fighting DRM.
Obviously it has to be subtle.
Example:
GoGhero was caught hunting on the king's land (damn boar DRM) and the king had GoGhero and their family killed for it. Now GoGhero has come back from the dead for vengeance.

Or maybe GoGhero was a librarian at one the the largest libraries in the world, filled with rare books detailing everything imaginable. A group of wizards, angry that spell books were too accessible to the common folk, attempted to curse the entire library with a spell so that each book could only be read once and the knowledge gained from it could not be conveyed to others.
GoGhero perished while attempting to get as many of the one-of-a-kind books as possible out of the library. Now back from the dead, GoGHero has a hatred of wizards and seeks to spread knowledge so that the actions of a few can not result in the loss of knowledge forever.
