There are a lot of things we do as a courtesy within a community that aren't rule-based. We're asking to respect the community by doing us the courtesy of helping to curb the activity that dropping codes contributes.

There are NO moderators for this community and yet, WE ARE all moderators of this community. Each one of us has to follow some (unwritten) rules that ensure that the members of this community have a good time while they are here.

Does anyone wants to be harassed/ scammed/ have a hard time navigating the forum? I don't think so, yet with the wrong actions, this is what happens. You may haven't got any problems yet but that doesn't mean you won't have in the future. Some common sense is needed from each one of us, so as for this community to endure and grow stronger.

If YOU are moderators, then this forum is doomed or any other forum will. You're going to let the very same scumbags you're going against moderate if we follow your logic.

I say that if you don't want to be harassed or the likes that you let a staffer do it as opposed to do it yourself, but I guess there's no changing in what you think. GOG's staffers aren't really active, but would I leave the moderation up to you? No. If anything, the only time you'll properly stop scumbags from doing their work is when you all stop all giveaways, and that's not very realistic and you're never gonna achieve that if you can't even stop people from dropping codes even with a desperate thread like this.

As you seem to want to ignore all logic and history regarding the matter, then I'll make it quite clear that as someone who has been active on here for very little time your opinion regarding the matter is flaccid at best and perhaps after a few more months about here you might have a rock solid throbber of an opinion. For now I suggest you take in the good advice of those who have been about a bit.

After ages of dealing with dropped codes myself on other places, I simply don't agree with anything being said. With freebies come your insects, and whether you put bug deterrent on your plants or not, they'll still be desperate to get to your plants and may perhaps hang around till you leave the plants defenseless. That's how it works. So stop all giveaways and we'll talk.

Just because the insects still keep coming doesn't mean it's wrong to do something to try to keep them out.

In any case, they're not asking for an end to all giveaways: They're asking for people to simply stop posting codes openly (as well as trade openly with strangers) because they attract scammers and they encourage scamming behaviour. And over the years, the community has tried to come up with systems to allow people to freely do giveaways or trades while minimizing risk; things like MAHAYO, encouraging people to participate in creative activities to enter, or even an escrow service that several users tried to start up. All of those solutions were ignored.

In essence the argument seems to be that people should be allowed to continue to particpate in behaviour that is demonstrably known to be harmful to the community, in the name of personal freedom.
