Because if everyone has the name of someone, then that just happens by default that some people have scum names as their dislike.
................
You said, again...."you have information about "not liking them" to indicate to you that they are scum,"

Dessimu: Sounds cocky. And it is not a first time from you. Makes you less likable and thus, your opinion less valued. Lets keep such ideas to ourselves and treat everyone with a degree of respect. When we find lady killers, we may... Oooooh, they should wish they never stepped in this Institute. What can I say? I'm clearly the smartest one here and I cannot help that it makes me less likable. It is fallible to devalue someone's thoughts because you don't like the person. Everyone must try to separate their ego from their intellect, those who do not, seem scummy to me.
drealmer7: We need to decide, are we going to make the name-stuff be what we vote around, or are we going to try and figure something else out to figure out who is likely to be most scummy? I want to know everyone's thoughts here. If we vote for name-stuff, my vote stays on dedo. If not, I'm curious as to what other avenue of voting we could/should take.
Dessimu: Sorry, I fail to understand what you ask here. If I get it right, you ask "Do we place our votes now based on flavor-names and dislikes?" and then you ask "If not, then what do we base our votes on?". Right? Is that what you mean? If so, I would not base votes on the "flavor name stuff". By the way, I think dedo is town (judging by his name stuff and the way of my PM). What to base votes on now? Hmm... Gut feeling? Logic of reasoning? But not on "name stuff". I think you get it, but, to be clearer, I hope:
also by "flavor name stuff" I mean the hooplah that has arisen by talking about flavor name stuff (me causing a ruckus, etc.), not just flavor-name stuff directly (as in, me voting for dedo for arbitrarily/carelessly sharing PM information that they may not have been certain about its meaning when doing so. Not piecing together the flavor from each person and deciding based on that, which I think could be a mistake.)
Ponder these things:
What if not everyone has a dislike in their PM? What should we make of those people or whatever other information they may or may not have in their PMs? Is their information pure "flavor" too to be disregarded? What if my PM says "you saw so and so slip something into so and so's drink during the social last night" ? What if that so-and-so has been called out as being disliked by someone, and now they are hesitant to reveal themselves, and my PM information that I thought was going to be useful, no longer is?
What if dedo had been the only one or is one of a few/several who do have a dislike? Is that sharing not careless and possibly useful for scum and possibly detrimental for town? I find it to have been an anti-town play, and again, is the straw at which I have decided to grasp. Agree with me, or don't, tell me why you disagree, or don't. It shouldn't be that big of a deal, imo, but the fact that it has caused such a stir, makes me think I struck a chord somewhere.
dedoporno: You already said this earlier yourself. If everyone indeed doesn't like another person (and there aren't duplicates) it's basically given that some people will hate scum. Do you honestly believe this bears any usable weight by itself? I think it possibly could have born more weight had the dislike came out after the player was identified as the character, especially in further days. Now, I believe it is possibly useless, and it is you who made it useless by your timing/way you went about it. I realize that this is just a possibility, but I have nothing else better to go on currently.
drealmer7: Agreed, hence my vote on dedoporno, it was just scummy distracting behavior with no ability to have the revealing of the dislike mean anything solid. The flavor itself doesn't mean too much on it's own. But I feel the related discussion provided some interesting results.
No, I care that a dislike for someone was shared without prior discussion to revealing the dislike. If you'd have come out and said "soooo, I have a name in my PM of someone I dislike/hate. Do you all think I should share it or keep it to myself? Who thinks it doesn't matter at all, who thinks it is relevant?" things would have gone differently.
Okay, so why did you do it? Do you then think there IS something to that information that we should be keeping in mind? If so, what?
cristigale: Looks like it's time to...

@drealmer - my impression so far is that you find anyone who disagrees with you as scummy. Any thoughts on that? Very sorry for it seeming that way. I really don't intend to be that way, I simply intend to analyze all angles with a critical eye, objectively. My issues aren't usually with people disagreeing with me, it's when I think someone understands me, twists what I say to seem as if they understood it differently (intentional "misunderstanding"), and then use their erroneous understanding as a basis for an argument against my argument/position.
HypersomniacLive: yogsloth's big on flavour, also hates sitting on our thumbs. especially on D1; I'm surprised you don't consider the possibility he added that bit to keep the game-thread alive during D1, and get himself a few extra kicks and giggles out of it.
Looking at this discussion, I'd say his idea was brilliant and a big success. Of course I consider that possibility and figure it to be most likely, which is why dedo bringing it up adds nothing to the real discussion going on, and I find it to be scummy play, and voted them. If there is something to the dislikings that can be figured out, then I find dedo's play careless or serving scum, or a scum-tactic. Either way, I'm comfortable with my vote on dedo.
I feel yogsloth may have been counting on me to be one of the few who might actually have done that. If I hadn't done what I did, where do you think we'd be now? You're welcome, yogsloth, for keeping the game entertaining.
It seems some people think the information in PMs is pure meaningless flavor (trent), it seems some think there is more to it (dedo), I'm currently uncertain either way. I'm curious where everyone else falls.

My name is Dr. Tutu du Seize and I don't like Dr. Zona Monolit.
Reminds me of a weird post I read a while back about an anime idea where a guy dresses up as girl to get into an all girls school and once he gets in he sees its all guys dressed up as girls but has to continue the act.

I am curious... Those of you, sharing names and dislikes, why not share an occupation as well? The subject you are here to teach. Mm? Yogsloth spent time on these things. It's interesting!

I think in the end you will be *shocked* to discover of how smart Dean is.
drealmer7: Ponder these things:

What if that so-and-so has been called out as being disliked by someone, and now they are hesitant to reveal themselves, and my PM information that I thought was going to be useful, no longer is? You asked me to ponder and I did. Here is what came to mind:
- You probably do not have same thing as most us. Want to know, who I think, also does not have same thing as most of us? Scum. Or... A role. There is a slim chance Yogsloth made you town and intentionally gave you something else.
- Of those people with different info. We may think they are scum! And they probably are! Or they have a role...thing. Or Yogs made something wicked for fun.
- Can't tell if info is "pure flavor" without knowing it. And even then it would still be a WIFOM till the game ends.
- If you slipped something in the drink, I would think you drugged JMich. That is the first thought anyway AND NOT TO BE TAKEN AS ACCUSATION. In whatever case I strongly believe that flavor is to a degree associated with your (or anyone else's) role in this game. Why? For a player with a special role to get better idea of how to handle that role, how to present it. This is logical. Or just to mess with you for fun - that is always, in every case, a possibility.
- I had this idea that Dedoporno called out a fictional character, who was mentioned in your PM. Lets take a case, where you also dislike this woman (Chaoji Huozhe was it?). I think, you treated this special information as special information. As in "Oh my! I just got a small detail that obviously no one else knows about! That means she is highly likely to be scum. And it is my job to: find out WHO is this player; find out if he is scum." And then, all of a sudden, dedoporno blew the whole train of ideas of yours. He made unnecessary obstacles for you in finding this player and determining his scummyness. You got angry over this. You have let your emotions flow and that turned into a very heated discussion, which was really unnecessary at this point. And this discussion has placed a noose around your neck.
My further idea? Whatever you have in that PM of yours, it still is helpful to a degree. I myself could be gravely mistaken and if I am, I will congratulate you. But I believe you are town. The overall situation, PM-flavor-name-stuff thing, your previous gameplay and your personality all together give me this strong gut feeling.
And even if I did not think you to be town, I still wouldn't vote you. And this is for people, voting drealmer now. Because you are too much of a gamble to vote now. Too high chance to misslynch you. For you made a fuss that a few players got confused and angry about. It is way too easy for scum to vote you on whatever you said. And then a few more people may join just because they don't see a better target.
And if you are town, you have some good (yet challenging) insights.
...
Oh, and one more thing. Overall, in general. People, don't forget that opinions can change. I had a very same problem that drove me nuts in real life... There was certain matter. Lets call it pasturage. A month ago, pasturage was new thing for me, I knew very little and said "Pasturage is evil. Only bad people do that.". Weeks passed, I learned a lot about pasturage: who does that, why does that, how that works, what good comes out. I started doing it and now I said "Pasturage is amazing! Many good and some bad people do it. We can do it for good.". My colleague started bugging me "How come a month ago you sounded so sure it was bad and now you insist it is good?" Because I gained knowledge! I was right a month ago (based on how little knowledge I had) and I am absolutely right now (based on how much true knowledge I gained).
So... Opinions change. And in this Mafia game it would be wise to think "Is (s)he really a hypocrite, or did his/her opinion change?" before accusing anyone of lying and twisting his/her own words.

So I choose to vote flubbucket now. He always looks scummy to me. Even when we were scum buddies in game #35, I thought he might be some super mafioso. Sounds pompous, I know. He seems to be enjoying flavor game (though bikini professor seems self-created) more than scum hunting. But then what scum hunting he does is too much for an ordinary town flubbucket. That raises my premature (Day 1) suspicions on him. And so, I vote flub.
My other suspects could be Leo, agent, cristigale. For lurking (sort of (it's Day 1 after all)). And I can't read Hunter, HSL, you and Krypsyn in this game. Yet.
