On May 26 2019 I purchased CIV IV Complete Edition for $29.99. Today I see the same package is in the Summer Sale for 75% off. Needless to say, I would gladly have waited 4 days to pay $7.49 for the exact same product.

Some retailers have a policy for such situations, agreeing to refund the difference, but I don't know if this goes for GOG. I didn't find anything in GOG support or forums on this point.

I'm quite new to GOG, although on Steam for several years. This was my first significant GOG purchase.

Do you long-time GOG customers know if there is any help in this kind of situation?

Thanks.

Any item you buy can be on sale at any time, should stores refund all purchases that were made X days before a sale?

I don't think there's anything you can do if the game works fine, just learn from your mistake and wait for a sale if you're anxious that it might get cheaper in the near future.
This happens to everyone.

I once bought a game here four hours before it went on sale. XD
I was pissed but I have no one to blame but my own bad luck....and Pauly Shore, though I can't prove that as of yet.
I don't think GOG has a policy like that but you could try contacting Support and asking them. They're pretty nice guys so who knows. But it would be understandable if they wouldn't refund you the difference.

Well, I know it`s frustrating, but that`s life!
It happens all the time that things go on sale and often not long after you bought it.
I mean, have you ever tried to go to your local supermarket and demand a refund, because the cheese you bought yesterday is now on sale and 40% cheaper? No?
But why do you think you can do this here then?
What InkPanther said. No guarantees, as there is no official policy for that and in the end it's all on you, but GOG staff is usually pretty cool and accomodating. Maybe they can at least turn some of what you paid into store credit or something.
In the beginning, God created the wishlist...and it was good.

(There is a premium to be paid for impatience).
The way figure it when I experience that with anything:  If it was worth full price when I purchased it, then it still is.

And if later it turns out something is not worth having, then I'm just more cautious in purchasing anything at all rather than make an effort for a refund of that something.

Which lately has meant I don't try much of anything new at all these days, and just chalk up new gadgets and such as mere novelties.  But the economy will be okay because there are eight billion other people for companies to churn through while selling just to sell.

You can try contacting Support since it wasn't too long ago, but don't get your hopes up too high.

Next time wait for sales like this and use your wishlist, and sites r/gamedeals and isthereanydeal can also help. You may just have to chalk this up to an "oops, oh well".

Thanks to all for the replies.

Since there is no regular GOG policy of the type described, I'll just chalk it up to experience and leave it there.

I would only add that for those who think the idea of a "price adjustment" in cases like this is unrealisitic, e.g. the comment about cheese, please note that this is in-fact a not uncommon business practice...one offered by many well known retailers.

I don't know how to post links, so offer that if you search "all the companies that will give you a refund if the price drops later" you will see what I mean.

Thanks again.

Well since you purchased it 4 days ago you can always try and contact support and see what happens. You don't lose anything. I believe gog has done something like that in the past but I don't know if they will still help you.
Other stores would just send you an automated response saying that it is not possible. At least with gog if it is not possible they will explain to you the reason why.

I know the feeling, and it is indeed disappointing. However, I agree with you on trying to get a partial refund, as such business practices are, indeed, not uncommon.

Nevermind the cheese comment. Different cultures or shops may work differently than others.

It doesn't hurt contacting support about this.

If you haven't downloaded the game yet, just get a refund and buy it again. If you have downloaded it, it's worth the $30

I hope that you'll feel lucky if gog DOES give you anything, and not feel bad if you get nothing. It's not a gog thing, it's a "shopping" thing, and sometimes what you want is cheaper later/elsewhere... just as things can also be more expensive later/elsewhere.

For the future, I'd recommend looking at website histories to see when/if they usually have sales, what kind of discounts they offer, and what games they reduce. Just like you might know your local supermarket always has a sale the third of every month, so too you might see certain game sites have sales at certain times during the year. You may also find this link helpful in general:

https://isthereanydeal.com/

It can not only tell you about prices on different sites but also the history of sales and historical lows, as well as game offers, free games, bundle sales, and so on. HTH
CIV IV retails for $30??? o.O
