spitfire1966: In the beginning, God created the wishlist...and it was good.

(There is a premium to be paid for impatience).
Very wise words indeed. Especially the impatience bit.
If you were happy with full price and didn't want to wait for the upcoming sales, you shouldn't be complaining. You have enjoyed the game 4 days earlier than you should have if you had bought it on sale.

I bought Obduction, now it's free for everyone. I don't really care because it's life.

So one time I bought Deus Ex like a day before sale. I wrote to Support and they deleted my game from my library and gave me full store credit to rebuy Deus Ex at the lower price and with the remaining store credit I bought something else. The key here that it was store credit, not a refund, and I ended up spending a net total more in the ensuing sale than had I just bought Deus Ex at full price. (I just checked, originally I spent $9.99 and afterwards it was $12.98, so who really won?) In my experience being on both ends of Customer Support, it really can't hurt to ask, and GOG is def one of the better ones about it. Happy customers of 1's and 0's are more likely to spend more money on 1's and 0's. So the worst they can say is "no" to your request and literally nothing of cosmic note changes and the grueling unbearable millstone we are bound to known as Time and Space continues on uninterrupted without pity or remorse until we are nothing but dust and radiation. Anyways, I've been a CSR and in situations like these, just give it a shot and ask about it. :)

Bought Agents of Mayhem for 50€, 3 weeks later and it's on sale for 10€, it sucks, but that's life. :P
I know, I know, that's what I deserve for buying Agents of Mayhem...still had fun with the game though.

Ancient-Red-Dragon: The best solution to the OP's dilemma is never to buy any game at full price.
I tend to agree tbh, unless it has a relatively cheap base price. Plus there are indie devs who deserve the support of full price.

paladin181: Typically, only if it hasn't been downloaded.

aRealCyborg: hm, i though they would not know if it has been or not... unless you are using gog galaxy
Nope, your account will flag a game if you download it. So you can contact them for a no fault refund if you haven't yet downloaded a game.

CharlieAllnut: On May 26 2019 I purchased CIV IV Complete Edition for $29.99. Today I see the same package is in the Summer Sale for 75% off. Needless to say, I would gladly have waited 4 days to pay $7.49 for the exact same product.

Some retailers have a policy for such situations, agreeing to refund the difference, but I don't know if this goes for GOG. I didn't find anything in GOG support or forums on this point.

I'm quite new to GOG, although on Steam for several years. This was my first significant GOG purchase.

Do you long-time GOG customers know if there is any help in this kind of situation?

Thanks.
Dunno if they will, but probably not as GOG's profit margins are low enough(net) right now, but they might make en exception.....try contacting them via the support tab above, then click orders and payments, then click contact us on the new page and fill the form out. :)

tinyE: This happens to everyone.

I once bought a game here four hours before it went on sale. XD
I was pissed but I have no one to blame but my own bad luck....and Pauly Shore, though I can't prove that as of yet.
Pauly Shore(and also Carrot Top) is a saint....leave the poor man outta this.

Braggadar: That shows character.
I think it's good to show "character" on a gaming forum.
The key thing here, is if you were happy at the time you bought the game for $29.95?
The answer is how you should view it all.

Me, I never pay more than I want to, and anything less than my cut-off limit is a bonus, not a given.

A fair price for a fair gain. If you got that at the time, you are laughing really ... or should be.

Don't begrudge a sale price you didn't bother waiting for.

P.S. That said, hot damn, what a bugger. Better luck next time. :)

Generally speaking, it's best not to buy games before you're ready to play them, unless they're already on sale. It's also best not to buy the last couple days of the week because of the typical upcoming sales.

Ultimately, at some point though, you're just going to deal with the fact that occasionally games will go on sale shortly after you buy. Or, you can try never buying anything.
As I've posted before, I do think it be a good idea to give Steam gamers a discount on buying the games through GOG that they already own on Steam (not for free... discounted!). I think this would be a great way to invest Steam gamers in the growth and success of the GOG ecosystem... where I feel many don't invest in GOG now because they have hundreds of games on Steam so feel tied to that platform. But with digital game sales...

I don't know of any "price matching" purchases

IMHO best bet when buying games is make a list, check prices against something like Cheapshark, and set up sale notifications on same. Along with GOG's wishlist sale notifications, you should have a good idea of when a game reaches your desired price range. Also... and this is the tough one... exercise patience. Wait for sales when you can. I've waited years for certain games to go on sale.

I think all of us have had a time we missed a sale or paid more than we hoped. I've been there. Sometimes you win some, sometimes you lose some.

It's also good to buy games which might someday be dislisted if the price is good...irregardless of sale. :)

Yep, unfortunately, they don't always give warning before that happens. And when they do, it's sometimes only a short warning.
