Torchlight 1 and 2 are great ARPGs, made by the people who also made Diablo.

If you aren't looking for specific gameplay and you're just making a long list of WRPGs no matter the style, here are some more that I think haven't been mentioned yet (excluding modern 3D FPS/TPS RPGs and tile-based dungeon crawlers):

Real time / ARPG:
Revenant
Soulbringer (might not run on all newer systems)
Driftmoon (more like an easy Zelda game with more story, Narnia-like Christian background that bothers some)
Rage of Mages 1+2 (scenario-based, RTS crossover)
Evil Islands

Real-time with pause or optionally turn-based:
The Witcher
Neverwinter Nights 2
Knights of the Old Republic 1+2
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Vampire - The Masquerade: Redemption
Serpent in the Staglands

Turn-based:
Fallout 1+2 (post apocalyptic, not fantasy)
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Dark Sun 1+2
Knights of the Chalice
Shadowrun series (cyberpunk, modern fantasy)
Torment: Tides of Numenera
Avernum, Avadon und Geneforge series, Nethergate: The Resurrection, Queen's Wish: The Conqueror
Eschalon 1-3
Underrail (post apocalyptic, not fantasy)
Albion (with some arcade-y action sequences, combat takes place on a different screen)
Balrum (with crafting)
Aarklash Legacy (combat mostly, foxed characters, linear story, not much else)

Careful with these two! Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms is actually an outdated version of the first part of Shadows: Awakening. You most probably wouldn't want to spend 30 dollars on getting only half of Shadows: Awakening just to see what it was like in the old engine. Frankly, I think it's rather shady that GOG allows the publisher to keep this up on the store page without so much as a warning. This should be included as a bonus to Awakening at best.

Get Kult: Heretic Kingdoms and Shadows: Awakening, but NOT Shadows: Heretic Kingdoms unless you're a collector or interested in the history of the game's development.

Or wait for a decent/deep discount on that one.

Does it ever go on sale? I don't think so.

Almost 100% sure that I picked it up during one of the bigger seasonal sales of the last few years.
Or the last time Kalypso Media participated in one of those publisher-specific sales.

Definitely didn't pay full price.

S:HK? According to IsThereAnyDeal, almost every month, just missed August.

chierules: Hi guys

I have been crazy about games like Diablo - Nox - Icewind Dale - Baldur's Gate since I was a teenager and I have always wondered: Are there more games like those ones? were there (in those times) more games like the ones mentioned?

Thank you for your time.
Fallout 1 and 2 are from that time, and resemble BG to a point.

Sacred 1 and 2 are similar to Diablo.

Dragon Age Origins is similar to BG.

Oh, okay, I stand corrected then. That's almost worse IMO though, without a warning what it actually is. Very likely that someone thinks it's a third game in the series. Can't really think of many reasons why people would want to buy it now that Awakening is out, even 10 dollars seems too much.

Did you know beforehand what it is? If so, may I ask what was your interest in it? And did you give it a try yet? Do you own Awakening, too? Did you notice significant differences between the two that make it worth buying?

Grim Dawn is the pinnacle the ARPG genre has yet reached.

You also asked about overhead-view RPGs. I tend not to be able to get into them as much, but others have responded for that half of your request.

Woodwine22: For the classic approach of role play gaming like Baldurs Gate or Icewind Dale, you should definitely check Pillars of Eternity, i found that greatly enjoyable. But you can also take a look at AtomRPG, Encased, Gamedec and Wasteland (i only played part 2 so far). Then take a look at Dungeon of Naheulbeuk, and then there is Black Geyser, in development though, but worth keeping in the back of your mind...

chierules: Wow, I have only read/heard about Pillars of Eternity. I just added the other names to my wishlist in Steam and GOG.

Vielen Dank!
You're welcome :) And let me add "Temple of Elemental evil", maybe you'll like it, too! I recently played "Ember", it's more what I'd call an "RPG lite" because the character creation and development is by far not comparable to the heavy weights of the genre, but still i found it a fun and easy going experience.

Was aware of the unfinished state and the controversy around it but in my case things like that aren't usually an immediate turn-off. I guess morbid curiosity as to how Shadows would fare as the official sequel to Kult + a decent discount was enough to make me pick it up. Being one of those collector types that just has to complete (with exceptions) the series in question surely was a factor as well.

Except maybe for the first 30 or 45 minutes I hadn't the time to properly play it (and Awakening for that matter) yet though, so I couldn't reliably answer any questions pertaining to whether or not Shadows, even with its shortcomings is still worth buying.

If you're a bit of a gambler, don't mind adding to the ever-growing pile of shame and manage to catch Shadows on sale I'd say go for it. Could make use of the no-questions-asked 30 days refund policy if you really can't help but feel robbed of your money after playing, too.
