So I just went to visit a friend, he has 3 kids aged 3, 7 and 12. They were showing me their nintendo 3DS, and I thought of showing off my own laptop, but what do I have installed? Deus Ex, of course, but it's not for wowing little kids. There's FTL, lacking wow factor. Hotline Miami, no way in hell. Which reminds me, Doom?

I got out of the situation showing the witcher 2 walking through the forest, and they asked if I was playing a Ninja. Does anyone have suggestions on what I could show? If it's a halfway known GOG game, I probably own it so it would be perfect, but other recommendations are OK too.

Kids shouldn't be shown any games at all, it might ruin their lives.

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime.
Thief
Splinter Cell

Perhaps a total war game?

Hmm....

Off-hand on the PC, I can think of:

Beyond Good & Evil
Shovel Knight
The Monkey Island games
Trine 1-3
Chantelise
Recettear
Oceanhorn
Sam & Max
Guacamelee
Rogue Legacy
Puddle
Deponia
The Rayman games
Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

Everything else is likely to be too "old fashioned", too "bland", too complicated or too violent. If the 3DS is their central gaming "hub", those are the games that are likely to appeal to them.

A black abyss of nothingness rapidly approaching by the year, well they need to get used to the idea at some point, so don't leave it till their 40 :o)

As for games, forget amazeballs graphics, and whooah shaders until they're between 10 and 25, nice colorful puzzle types things keep most kids happy, its only when they turn into total dicks does it have to be 100fps 600 mile viewport Doooty!

Do they like Star Wars ? If yest you could show them Rebel Assault 1 or 2. Not likely they've seen such oldies.
I think Trine should be perfect. Ziggurat might work. World of Goo maybe?

Out of this list I think Trine 1-2 are an excellent suggestion. Beautiful colorful looks, different characters with different abilities (with the sort of ninja-ish thief), and if you manage to get co-op to work that would be the icing on the cake.

Edit: Thief'd... I mean, ninja'd :-P

No Pineapple Left Behind.
Super Mario Bros. (NES)

Pokemon Red/Blue (Game Boy). In particular, show them Missingno..

(Note: The name "Missingno." actually ends with a period.)
jamyskis has nice list there and here's some more:

Incredible Machine -series..
Rollercoaster Tycoon -series, RCT3 might be best graphics wise..
Creatures -series maybe..
Myst -series.. for puzzles but might be too bland / boring / "nothing happens"
Octodad.. messing with level editor might be fun..
