Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

bbelcher02: GOG Galaxy should have the ability to scan the target drive and determine whay GOG games are installed from the library already. All my game I bought are already installed, yet there no games listed as installed already.
It does. Will work if the installer used was set up for Galaxy, if not see option 2.

Please be aware that Client will accept any folder pointed to and will overwrite files inside it (this can for example wipe some mods or damage other apps in case of pointing to a wrong folder) and will update the game to the newest version (current default language English).

mecha_fish: Hello! I was given an invite for the alpha version of Galaxy, but I didn't redeem my offer until after the beta was released. I wouldn't have thought this would be a problem especially since my library says I have the Beta version. However, it seems the version I downloaded was the alpha version. The name of the downloaded file is "setup_galaxy_1.0.0.871" and the version I have installed is also named as that version. I believe I read somewhere the beta version is 1.X or something to that effect.

I checked support about whether it's a downloader issue -- I can't use GOG Downloader at this time because my internet connection is too unreliable for the downloader to cope. I just used the Chrome browser to get the alpha version. I don't know if using GOG Downloader would solve the issue.

This alpha version I have installed isn't capable of connecting to the internet so it's own self-updating feature probably won't work.

Anyway, it appears that although the GOG website believes I have the beta version in my library, the file that I have access to isn't the beta version. I'm not sure how many other alpha invites neglected to download Galaxy until after it'd gone beta.
1.0.0.871 is the current beta version of Galaxy. That you can't connect sounds like something you should report to mantis.gog.com

gringlas: I testet it with Tie Fighter CE (1995). Yesterday I installed Galaxy onto my Macbook and downloaded Dungeon Keeper, Little Big Adventure and Sim City 2000. It seems that it tracked at least once time there as I started all games for a few minutes and it says I played for 3m, 3m and 2m. After starting those games again, the times didn't increase again.
Today back on my Win7 machine I installed Little Big Adventure and started it. But it didn't add to my game time.
avatar
skeletonbow: Ok, I own all of those games and can test them too. I'll also test if repeat game sessions with a given game causes the prior count to go up and we can share data here and see if there are any similarities etc. Might help GOG to track down bugs by co-relating data from different folks.

TheParasite: I've had the Galaxy client for a few days now and am using version 1.0.0.871 as of this moment. I turned on my computer and launched the Galaxy client 27min. ago. I then watched as my list of 15 installed removed themselves from the left tab one by one. I tried to manually re-add the games and Galaxy reported there were no games in the directory (FYI I had chaged the default directory as I did not want games on my OS drive).

I just checked the folder the games are installed too and each of the 15 game folders are now approximately 1.5MB in size. Something just happened where the client deleted around 20GB of games from my hard drive when it was launched by basically uninstalling all my games. All that was left intact was the directory structure for each game and the unins000.exe/dat/msg files.

Please let me know if there is a log or anything that might have recorded this event that I can upload. Pretty pissed right now as I just lost all my games, not reinstalling any games until I'm sure the client won't remove files without consent.
avatar
skeletonbow: What is the drive letter and subdir where the games were installed, and what is the directory where the Galaxy client is installed? Someone else reported their games being blown away recently and it turned out that they told Galaxy to install the games as subdirectories of Galaxy client itself, and Galaxy client apparently recursively deletes its own private directory when it updates itself so if games are present in there (presumably they don't belong in there), they might get deleted. Nonetheless, GOG indicated that they will try to change the Galaxy update process to be aware of this situation and attempt to avoid deleting things that don't belong to it even if they shouldn't be there.

If yours is installed somewhere else, there could be other cases that have yet to be diagnosed as problematic and/or special cases for them to handle also. You might want to consider filing a bug report in mantis also and attaching your logs if you still have them.

Hope this helps.
Damn that must be it. I changed the client install to E:\\GalaxyClient\ and the game directory is E:\\Galaxy Client\Games\. I tend to try and limit my game portals (steam, origin, etc.) to their own directories and have never had any issues and didn't think Galaxy would have an issue.

This seems like a major oversight; if the client nukes anything in it on updates, it should not allow or at least prompt you to install games elsewhere. I imagine the vast majority of users will never have this issue by using the default install settings but I'm glad GOG is now aware and thank you for letting me know that I need to separate my client and games to use Galaxy.
Is GoG Galaxy supposed to save the installers? I've just attempted to redownload my entire library to get the up-to-date ones and I'm finding that Galaxy is deleting the installers afterwards.

As was explained to me (someone correct me if I'm wrong), if you just click "install" on the game's page, it'll just install the game and not leave a backup copy anywhere.

Backup copies are located under "more>download extras", but they only download the 'setup.exe', they won't install it. You'd have to do so manually like always.

So download Extras means the installer and the extra files like normal?

As far as I can tell, yes.

That being said, what hasn't been going so smoothly for me is downloading the backup installer, installing it, and then getting Galaxy to recognize the installation. I don't know if it's by design or it's just buggy, but my money is on the latter.

I'd report that as a bug on mantis. They can always flag it accordingly if it is by design.

And what steps did you take? Assuming the installer downloaded correctly - did you install the game manually and then used MORE -> MANAGE -> IMPORT FOLDER to add the game? Be aware that many older installers don't result in installations automatically detectable by Galaxy - it's mentioned in the sticky.

If you followed the steps above and still had issues, please do report them on mantis.
downloading/installing it now. I don't have very many games to try out GOG Galaxy with(mostly its stuff I got for free), but I'll see what I can manage to give in terms of feedback
I, personally, am very annoyed by the client eating 1.3+ Gb of my RAM on idle (it also put my laptop to some sort of halt when I was downloading Wing Commander 3, the OS was barely moving, I thought he died...). Steam (and it's webhelpery exey whatevery... thing) takes about 100 Mb and doesn't really bother me that much sitting silently where I can't hear it. Looking forward to further development of the Galaxy service, right now in beta stage it's not very useful since it cripples my computer so hard that I gotta bust it's ass off my system tray after I'm finished with checking what new the day has brought :)
I really appreciate the idea though. It's about time really, now I'm going to use GOG Galaxy instead of Steam for my games library whenever I can, since Steam shows the real sings of corruption these days and has some questionable features (I don't believe we'll ever get rid of it for good though, so GOG needs to continue being unique in it's own way).

For now that's best, but it's a bad idea both to put things in the private folder of something, but equally if not worse for something to blindly delete a dir it created recursively instead of just deleting the actual files from a manifest. That's just a bit of an oversight though it seems albeit an unfortunate one, but the good side is they mentioned they plan on fixing it to not be overzealous like that which is the right thing to do ultimately because right or wrong, other customers are almost certainly sure to do the same thing since there have been at least 2 if not more just in the forums here who have done that in less than a week. Customer is always right, right? :) Hopefully they fix that in the next build so others don't get their games blown away though. Data loss is always the worst type of software bug, even if it is just video game config files or savegames etc. :)

gringlas: That would be nice. :)
Ok, I tested it with Dungeon Keeper so far, and after exiting the game the first time it registered around 21 minutes. I exited and restarted Galaxy and then the game a while later, loaded my savegame and continued for a while. Exited and Galaxy did not immediately register my game time even after a reload so I thought I reproduced your bug but then I left it for a while and played a Steam game. I came back later and Galaxy had updated the time on Dungeon Keeper correctly so there could just be a timing issue perhaps. More testing tomorrow.
