People on the Desura comment's page are saying the download is up, 1.5GB. So at least there is a DRM Free option out there to buy it.

LeonardoCornejo: I have not played those games, but if there is a precedent that makes it even easier to release.

TStael: Well. I do not play sadistic or vile games - excepting maybe TW2, but just once and, I am shamed to admit, to the end after Dethmold pimple popping - when I know that our actual world has too much sadism and cruelty.

I perso think that there are a few things we should not make into an entertainment - torture, for example, before it becomes a non issue in the real world.
I am more in the "Anything goes as long as no one gets hurt for real" Line of thought, but I tend to agree some things are rather tasteless when you take the role of the perpetrator. Rape is one of those things,
Ohh.. Stress reliever.

Atticusmj: Hot Line Miami 2 was banned so that idea is out the window

DaCostaBR: I thought they just censored the australian version but I guess not.
Unless something changed last I read anything from the makers they told fans there to steal the game online so they could play it due being unable to buy it

Curious, it didn't have DRM-free tag and Desura even tweeted it won't be. Good thing they changed their mind.

I'd given up waiting for their clusterfucks, closed my nose and installed steam already, but... I suppose I could take another copy eventually, if it's clean.
But do anyone actually played this game? is it so good to deserve all this noise?

etb: But do anyone actually played this game? is it so good to deserve all this noise?
Yes, it eventually unlocked on Desura. It's actually quite fun and challenging on the hardest difficulty. The aiming is pretty good, and there's just enough gameplay to keep me interested, I turned off the voice acting and music, so it's pretty eerie at times. It doesn't have a lot of depth, but it does its thing well, more than mindless wave shooters, if you ask me.

Got surrounded by SWAT and police a few times, and only tactics can save you. You have to keep moving, choose when to reload and to execute someone to regain health. It's more of a tactical shooter than a random massacre game. You can also escape in a car, blow up a lot of stuff, even walls.

The performance gets worse over the course of a level, especially with high destruction. It can get abysmal and choppy.

I think I'll play some more before bedtime.
To comment on the 'preemptive' (self) censorship assumption again, that is actually a good guess and hardly unprecedented.

I would rather assume that Hatred will be properly "banned" in Germany soon – not because of its oh so controversial nature, but because the arbitrary criteria of the BPjM, ignorantly fumbled together decades ago, will find a perfect match.

In other words, Hatred is the early 1980s kind of controversial.

TStael: So, paedophile hunt game aiming to rape children... Would this not be quite a big fat middle finger aimed at all those hippies?

U would play that, eh?

No, I think (hope?): so shame one u hypocrite!

And in case you need reminding: random murder is a crime, and bluaady cruel one. And so is raping children, obviously. Deeply cruel.

PS: Prime suspect: 3.
Yes and that's why Movies, TV shows and video games are allowed to show as much killing as possible, but if they show explicit sex they will earn the worst rating possible, and showing explicit rape would likely get them banned completely.

You obviously don't live in the same society the rest of humanity does. Violence is a part of human society and our entertainment, always has been, get over it.

The fact that you put [fictionalized] raping children and [fictionalized] killing in the same category shows you're an idiot.

LeonardoCornejo: Hey I don't have a better nominal term to use for those moralist corrupt wankers. Do you have any?
avatar
DCT: I can think of a few.

1. irrational idiots
2. fucktards
3. mouth breathing primates
4. simpletons
5. dumb marks
6. the critically thinking challenged
7. Thinking impaired
8. internet justice brigade
9. pretentious, mindless self righteous pricks
I can go on and the best part is all of these can be used to describe almost any internet asshats be they SJWs, tumblr femenists, fundamentalists. the anti SJW camp, who ever.
10. "people who disagree with me"
From what I saw in that thread (and every other where it has appeared) thus far, I think it's a most accurate synonim. :/

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The German authorities cannot into digital distribution. Seriously, I'm still waiting for the 2013 version of Shadow Warrior to get banned in Germany. So far, it's not even blacklisted. They just can't do it, they seem to actually need some concern-o-drone from the youth welfare office to find a shiny new retail copy at the local supermarket for them to be able to jump into action.

StorkV88: So I just played Hatred for 30 minutes and this is my... opinion on it:

It's actually better than I expected, gives you the feeling of being in a horror movie but you're the ''monster''. It's actually a interesting conflicting perspective.
avatar
LeonardoCornejo: Hey, that sounds like a grat idea for a horror game. You are the monster.

And I am not using sarcasm. It could be a great selling point.
The "You are the monster/enemy" reversal of the classical POV IS a very efficient pitch. Been used in many games like Rampage, the alien gameplay of AVP2 (where you start by hunting civilians in the corridors of the base), Lucius, Overlord, Dungeon Keeper, Incubation...

EDIT : Massively ninja'ed on this one ^^

Also the various military shooters like CoD ;)

Telika: Mentions Vampire : Bloodlines and Ghost Master
Holy shit, how could I forget to include 2 of my favorite games in my list.

And as you said, you can do some pretty sick stuff as an alien in AVP2 (I sure did "play with my food" myself with whimpering, sobbing civilians when I played it a few years ago.)

Texas Chainsaw Masscare on the Atari 2600 you play leatherface and the goal is to kill as many teens as you can.
