Final Fantasy X-2's hidden ending realy is the worst hidden ending. Besides being the one true and canonical ending, you can't even achieve it on a single play through and have to play that game multiple times. It isn't even a matter if missing dialogue, you need to see all dialogue even though you can't see all dialogue in a single play through due to some of the choices you make.

There's this mini game that you play once with an intermission after. You need to win or lose, then play through the whole game a second time to do whichever of those things you didn't do the first time. There's other similar things, only with choices - do I have Yuna & Friends do this or do that. Whatever I don't do, I'll have to play again to do. You also have to win at all mini games. Play the damned things until you are good at them and get the perfect score needed to make Final Fantasy X-2 happy with you.

It's not like Final Fantasy X where I blew off Blitzball. The issue isn't that Blitzball is bad as they really did put a lot of effort into it. I just felt that dropping everything to complete in an entire season of Blitzball just went against the who sense of urgency and needing to get to Zanarkand to save the world. The only punishment was never getting Wakka's best weapon, which really isn't needed because it's not like the world wouldn't be saved without it.

Oh and even if you do everything right to see the normal ending for Final Fantasy X-2, you get one final opportunity to mess things up and not see the good ending thus also not get to see the prefect true ending. When Yuna is walking in the farplane, you have to press a button and she'll hear a whistle. You also have to indicate that you want to see Tidus again. Also the game tries to trick you with fade out and credits, so you have to just wait. It's like the game is throwing everything it can at you to make you miss out.

The way they went about things with Final Fantasy X-2 is such that even though I liked Final Fantasy X enough to have named one of my pets after a Final Fantasy X character, I hate and loathe Final Fantasy X-2 to no end.

I agree with you on that. I swear they made it that hard on purpose just to sell strategy guides on how to get that ending.

*raises hand* Yeah, I was one of those people that pushed myself to beat Blitzball for Wakka's limit break and weapon. Yet, for the life of me, I still can not get through the lightning dodging or that freaking butterfly minigame. *rage intensifies*

Oh that's cool you named a pet after an FFX character. Let me guess... Is it a cat and did you name her Lulu? Wakka if it was a boy cat?
The 'true' ending should never be hidden behind meeting certain criteria. It's a game, not a to-do list. Whichever way we stumble across the finish line, we all deserve the same ending!
At least it wasn't the ending of The Witcher (so maybe doesn't count) but I didn't like how I missed the 'truth' about what happened in Vizima (a key plot line) because I chose the wrong dialogue option/didn't complete a side quest at the right time.
Honestly, most of the time I kinda think having multiple endings (hidden or not) usually sucks, they’re more of a hassle than anything else.

When I only see one ending, I feel like I’m missing out, and trying to unlock the rest is either a boring grind or as cheap as reloading a save and picking a different choice. You either have to slog through the same parts over and over, making tiny changes here and there, or you just reload and flip a choice.

Both ways feel lame, so why bother? What’s the point? Just commit to the story you actually want players to experience, don’t throw in extra endings for the sake of it, like if that somehow makes the game better.

I for one very much prefer the story to be my choice, not that of the game designers, it's one important aspect that games have over books or movies. So as long as there is an ending that I prefer, I don't care to see others. But, again, that ending must be reachable as my choice, not gated by non-story elements, especially hidden ones, or for that matter unintended results.
