I was about to do a similar thread like this. The mid-late pre-2010 was Spoony's golden era. Now..?
Not at all. I was kind of angry and disapointed at first. Then I didn't care. When I heard he's a Patreon whore and still doesn't deliver, I got angry again but later decided to not care. New Spoony is crap, so that's why I watch his old stuff nowadays.

Shit i miss spoony so much, that guy reminds of some friends we all had when growing up.
I hope that Spoony will get his spirit back, since it was quite broken by bullies.
Spoony you have a massive ninja audience, people are just waiting for you.

Side note, Youtube is dead, money killed it, we need a new user video site !!!
Hmmm i don't think he's stopped doing reviews, rather i thought he got burned out which is why he disappeared for 6-8 months. I know what that's like so i don't feel any need to pressure him (Took me 2 years to get out of a lull, and never quite got out).

Although recently he did put up a few new videos for Counter Monkey.

As for reviews for games... Some of them take a very long time to complete and get a good feel for. Especially RPG's. Comics, movies and board games you can analyze them fairly quickly as they are static or it's all laid out for you, while a 40+ hour RPG with objectives you can't complete without a second play-through could be preventing the 13-2 & 13-3 games. So far i've played/beaten most of the 13 series (i think out of boredom). Not to forget recording footage, finding sections you wanted to talk about or use as examples, planning various scenes and sequences that help explain the absurdity of some of the logic you have to just accept to play, etc.

Oh yeah... he also hit the level where he's suppose to be write a screenplay (although what it's about i have no clue. But it won't be like to bravely flee).

I think part of the problem might be that he reviewed all the stuff that he really cared about- Highlander, Ultima, FF VIII and X, Privateer. That's what started TSE and that's where his best stuff always came from. It's also a little like that with Nostalgia Critic. He was at his best when he was reviewing genuinely nostalgic things. Now he just reviews whatever, even movies from this year just because they are big right now, and it feels empty, like he's just going through the motions.

Yeah... I don't think the Spoony Movie, orwhatever it would be, is ever going to happen. Nor do I really want it to. I'd rather see him go back to reviews. A full Wing Commander Retrospective would be great.

Breja: I just finished rewatching his Ultima Retrospective. Great stuff, funny and informative, it takes you on a journey through two decades of PC gaming, and a very personal journey of one gamer who grew up playing those games.
That’s my favourite too. Usually Noah only reviews stuff he hates because he thinks we find his pain funny (and I do), but to convey the pain of Ultima Ascension, he had to provide context. That meant going through every game of a series he loves, and we got to see that enthusiasm. I found a whole new respect for the Ultima franchise and rewatch the series a couple of times a year.

He still does Counter Monkey, where he speaks of old tabletop RPG adventures and adds a moral to each story. His best tale is definitely Thieves’ World. I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but it’s a magnificent example of how one absurdly lucky dice roll can change the destiny of an entire city and send an adventure flying off the rails and into the stratosphere.
I miss pre-mid 2009 Spoony because that was when he was genuinely funny. His stuff went REALLY downhill after that, I even criticize the Ultima retrospective for the skits alone.

I would think that the other part (and a big part) is the YouTube's new hardline stance on using bots for content ID/DMCA enforcement and whatnot that you mentioned earlier. Spoony isn't part of a larger, more-corporate channel like AngryJoe or TB, is he? I would think there wouldn't be a huge incentive for him to do more reviews (especially the style of reviews he's known for) if it's just going to result in him getting a copyright strike and having the revenue on that video seized.

I can only assume he'll review 13-2 & 13-3 at some point. Or maybe he'll find some other passionate series he loves that he can cover, although a number of people have their own niche channels that cover a good number of games so maybe he feels he wouldn't need to cover it/them?

He said he's DMing again and playing games again so maybe he's just taking a good break. (How long i couldn't guess at). Or maybe he has other boardgames planned and he has to get ahold of them before he can cover it. As for older computer game titles, some won't work on modern hardware, and as much as we love GoG and DosBox and other software, some of it just doesn't work even with emulation.

Hmmm i know coming up with ideas is hard for me, perhaps impossible at times. I sorta hope for something sci-fi-ish, perhaps like I Robot, although trying to compete with Asimov is going to be tough. I'd want something serious rather than goofy. Afterall he's just writing the screenplay, not making the movie. After it's written he could pitch it to a few large studios and see if they'd make it, so we'll have to see...

As for Wing Commander Retrospective... I'd watch that. :) Although i could have sworn i watched something similar, and someone got ahold of the original footage that was made for some of the FMV games so they could use it rather than the crappy encoded ones that were sent with the discs...
He's a drama queen, some of his 'skits' are embarrassing to watch, and he lashes out at people when others tell him how it is and the truth hits to close to home.

However, when he simply let's plays a game and riffs over it, it's some of the best riffing I've ever heard. Terror Trax, SWAT 4, Phantsmagoria 2 and Ripper are classic.
You ever hear the old saying, 'don't believe what they write about you in the papers?' That's Spoony. Like so many other rock stars and professional wrestlers, he made the cardinal sin of being a mark for himself. It is the beginning of the end of creativity and forward momentum. At this point the only things that can save his creativity is divorce and a heavy drinking problem. Works for most writers.
I like Spoony, watch most of his stuff, except the wrestling. Cool guy.

Massive? Uh, not so much anymore? Many of his fans have given up, not because the lack of updates but his asshole attitude on streams. Fuck him.

Given up? Haha... no, they became middle aged. Spoony's been making videos since like '05 or '06. Most of the late teens/early 20s kids that were watching him at the beginning are now in their late 20s/early 30s and are busy with having families and trying to figure out a way to pay of their student loan debts. Spoony is just a middle aged guy working a gimmick that he should have folded about 5 years ago. Showing versatility and range are the key to a successful talent.

In 25 years he'll be balding, limping around comic-cons and conferences pitching the old nostalgia tricks and arguing with kids half his age about them having to pay 5 bucks for an autograph. Hopefully by that time I'll be dead because I don't really want to see that.
I stopped watching his stuff years ago. He got way too forced and nitpicky in his reviews and they were no longer as entertaining for me. Most of all though, I quit following him because it just got way too sad and depressing (and he was often an asshole), I just didn't want to provide traffic for him anymore, considering he would release maybe one video every two months, it wasn't hard.

I heard he got a new girlfriend at some point, and it seemed like that put him in better spirits, but maybe it didn't if he really quit making videos months ago.

I'm curious as to how he's supporting himself. It looks like he still has a successful patreon, but how does that work if he just flat out stopped working?

Stupid and naive fanboys keeps supporting him in false hopes that he will upload more, better and more often.
