Trilarion: But why want people another old school rpg game? I just wonder, what exactly was so great about them? And do people really want to do without all the new school rpg features?
avatar
Lorfean: Well, it's not really "another" old school RPG game, because the type of game they're aiming for with Wasteland 2 is simply not being made anymore.
...
I agree with this reply, nothing really to add.

Well, maybe that I still require an automap (if needed, e.g. 3D dungeon crawlers), and a quest log. I don't miss those from the oldskool CRPGs.
i just found out.since fallout 2 is my no1 game of all time this is fantastic news! im giving 50 bucks and hope its 2d :)

orcishgamer: ...
Wasteland didn't play like that.

Trilarion: Then how did it play?

No one to sell things to? Or easy to sell things always? No dungeons or maze or labyrinthine areas that need to be explored and cleaned of zombies, monsters or other beings that attack you immediately? No quests telling you that you need to go somewhere and find something or kill somebody? All these things can be interesting or boring depending on how they are setup.

What did the players do in Wasteland?
I'm not trying to be snarky, download it and play it (it's not like it's currently "for sale"), find out. You'll be pleasantly surprised. Just because some RPGs of that era didn't have much direction in them doesn't mean they all didn't, The Legend of Blacksilver is another excellent example of a RPG with a story and clear direction.

Or you could read the CRPG Addict's take on it.
Another update as of 3/16/2012 $1,219,627. I'm glad they raised the amount that they needed for the game. looking forward to playing when it becomes available.

Edit: 31 days left.

Crossing the 1,250,000 mark the game just got bigger.

This way it will grow to be as big as it can, although I'm not sure how exactly this is measured (how much game we get).

One question, I pledged 50$ and selected the 50$ reward, did I have to make a 65$ pledge for the shipping or will that be billed sometime later?

I think you have to increase your pledge yourself.

Thought so, only that I noticed it later. Dammit, it better be worth it Mr. Fargo.
Looks like funding has slowed down a bit, but given that there are still 30 days left, 1.5 million seems pretty much assured. :) Again, not really interested in the game, but it would nice for people to be able to play it on Mac and Linux as well as Windows.

Finally pledged $50.Might move up to $100 later on funds permitting :).

Yea I think it will get to at least 2mill. The double fine adventure jumped up quite a bit in the final hours as people on the fence must have jumped on board.

Expack: Well, then, perhaps GOG can negotiate with EA to get them approve a GOG.com release of the original Wasteland. That's a remote possibility, isn't it?
avatar
Bodkin: Well, we have D&D games, right. But we still don't have System Shocks. So, fifty fifty?
I'd daresay that's a reasonable guesstimate.

Of course, one could arguably increase the odds by sending a suggestion to GOG saying they should negotiate with EA to be able to sell Wasteland 1, and, once the rights to sell the game are secured, work out a deal with Brian Fargo and his crew at inXile Entertainment to cross-promote Wasteland 1 and Wasteland 2. At least, that's what I chose to do, anyways...

Sounds like a great idea. Forward it to the powersthatbe at GOG?
I would so want to give money to this project -- but first I will need that money!

I think I'll partake in the lottery or something. And of course I get some next month.

1,300,000 already -- way to go!
I just massacred a bunch of kids and killed the Red Ryder ... or so I thought.

Now that I've gotten the hang of combat, I'm really starting to love Wasteland so much <3
