PMIK: I never really played wasteland either. How is it different from Fallout? other than the obvious interface/graphics difference.
I played it a while back and got the impression that it's much more... wacky, I believe the word is.
One of the first quests? Kill some killer bunnies infesting a garden. Need to get somewhere in a town? Oh hey, there's a howitzer nearby, shoot it into some buildings and destroy them, people in this world don't seem to mind. One of the last quests involves storming a citadel full of heavily armored nuns armed with heavy weapons. There is a skill called "toaster repair" - you get stuff from broken toasters when you use it - very valuable stuff, and mandatory to complete the plot, if I'm not mistaken. And many more.
Still, worth a try, it's certainly interesting. This let's play is quite entertaining and informative:
