What do you think?

Square finally swayed, as many other big developers, to give in to the complaints that have been around since day one?
The last drop seemed to be that pc owners who enjoyed the game through a streaming service found themselves playing the apparent beautiful x box version. This was followed by, i guess a huge protest on the known online protest places such as reddit or twitter maybe.

Is this a good thing? Somewhere i feel that this results, while wished for grant more and more power to a format that actually is more desirable with as little power as possible?

I don't give any crap whatsoever about that, unless if/when/until it's going to be released on GOG DRM-free and with full parity to all the features it has on other platforms.

Until/if that happens, then that game might as well not exist to me, because I ain't ever going to be buying it. Ditto for any other Square Enix game too.

1. Steam release on March 2017.
2. Port has issues, but despite that, Square Enix is more than happy to accept customers' money and not get shit fixed for 4 years.
3. New patched version is released for basically nothing outside Steam after Square Enix happily accepts Microsoft's money as well.
4. People on Steam get a taste of being a GOG customer.

The update released on Steam also. Was there a delay or something from the Microsoft version?

I still don't see Nier: Automata on GOG, or really any semi-recent Square Enix title for that matter. Not that I really care much about Square Enix, but it's not really the same.

The patch was released today on Steam. It was released 4 months ago on the Game Pass.

c'mon don't be that disgruntled, i know the path of the gog is sometimes desilusionizing and maybe even willingly harsh but there is still a fare share of fun to be ghad on ghog.

i do value everyone's opinion btw though i do hope that this post while not directly related to gog ( but related to gaming ) is perceived an insult, its not ... imma gamer in general not prohibited by law, well i am prohibited by law , but i do stand for drm while evenly open natured towards idealism in gheneral

Okay, and where are the semi-recent Square Enix games on GOG? Nowhere to be found. So how is Steam getting a taste of being a GOG customer?

But hey, maybe Nier: Automata will be a new Square Enix release during the Winter Sale...

Damn right. There's a ton of great games on GOG and even more upcoming, and while I'd be excited to see newer Square Enix games here, I'm not exactly hurting for things to play.

To be 100% correct it's not a "patch" per see it's a different port of the same game. And this port has advantage over the original one (i.e. several bugs fixed, some new features) but also some new issues of its own that are unlikely to be ever fixed by Square. At least it doesn't uses Denuvo so it's already that.

hmm what did they fix?
is this a good game, ive only seen some b2 cosplays
Good to hear for Nier fans. I've found SE Japan's PC ports of their games to be poor in general. I hope this leads to them fixing and optimizing their other releases.

TomNuke: So how is Steam getting a taste of being a GOG customer?
By getting a patch 4 months after it was originally released?

What do you want to know, devs/publishers mostly push out crap and leave communities to defend it whilst raking in the cash, yep that’s the industry. Do they stick their fingers up at their customers, burnout their machines with dubious software, capture tb’s of user data for their own nefarious gain, of course they do. Does the gaming world suck it up, and come back defending every tiny little decision, swearing blind that it’s the best thing ever, of course.

Bottom line is that GOG isn't getting anything semi-recent from Square Enix at all.

this is why i say only buy quality games , only that could change publishers behavior
Yeah, it took them four years, a plethora of negative reviews by the community, and the fear of their re-release of Replicant tanking, for them to patch their game in order to make it playable without mods. At the end of the day it's a good thing for the ones who love Automata, but I wonder how many disgruntled customers have they gotten back by doing the bare minimum, and even then, how long will it take for their community to forget that Square Enix = bad PC ports?
