Does the GOG version of Quake come with music? I ask this because I have bought the ID collection and when launched Quake I noticed that there was no music.

Only the DOSBox version. Read relevant thread about it.

It's in game folder in bin file.
It does include the music, however if you're not using the DOS version you have to mount the game.cue included in the folder to hear it play.

Thanks, I did not see that thread.
Yeah no music for windows.
Sorry, haven't got it yet so was not sure.
Does the music work if you use a source port like Dark Places?

From what I remember, you must still provide Dark Places with the music files in question (in MP3 form, if I recall correctly).

In essence, the Steam Ultimate Patch is the Dark Places Source Port, along with the soundtrack in MP3 form. You can download the source port yourself, rip the CD Audio image provided by the DOS version here on GOG and place them in specific directories.

or just install that... assuming it works.

Well, the link says that it's only intended for the Steam version, so my post above is in case the Ultimate Patch doesn't work with the GOG version.

haha I assumed as much but god knows. Digital games can have interesting results.

Fairfox: Until a fix is made - or somebody works out how - just be aware that if you create (...or find, obviously!) ogg files for Quake and the two mission packs it'll only play the files for the base game; that's because you have to place them inside the 'MUSIC' folder as opposed to id1/music, hipnotic/music and rogue/music. You can only have one set of 02.ogg (etc) in there, for example, and you can't 'tell' it to look elsewhere.

I've no doubt some clever users will figure out a way, but in the meantime place the oggs in that 'MUSIC' folder, rename _winmm.dll to winmm.dll, and there you go. Even GOG themselves didn't fix this with the original, fully intact original installer.

Or just play the DOS versions, I guess. Blergh. Or go with Quakespasm, etc!
I have the opposite problem running Quakespasm where I can get the music running fine for the mission packs, but not the original base game.
