Despicable me.

Overlord II is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, 75% off until July 23th, 1pm UTC. Grab the original Overlord at 75% off, as well.
Ahh, it's good to be back! But that's the only "good" you'll be doing in this game. The rest mostly amounts to murdering, plundering, terrorizing, seducing, and demolishing. Conquer every human village or raze it to the ground with your well-trained, crafty Minions and then use your demonic charms to go after the black hearts of the three alluring mistresses. Who said romance is dead?

A reasonable price and a good launch discount, nice release. :)

So how does this game compare to the first one?
Had almost given up any hopes of seeing this one around these parts. Seems I was wrong, thankfully! Keep'em coming!
From dedicated linux user:

Dammit, i angry now, really. First they released Linux port by Virtual Programming on Steam. I wrote to them and they (VP) answered to me that its up to distributor (Codemaster) to provide port or not on certain platforms - financial and licensing stuff. And we got nothing.

Now they release Overlord 2 and we again got nothing! WTF? No, really?
Probably they going to count Linux users with Wine as Windows again and then say "we dont see any Linux customers, lol"

I can believe that GOG have not enough weight to affect such matters, but how exactly GOG is supposed to grow and gain confidence when distributors wipe their foots against your back?

And on damned Steam they dont dare to pull such tricks - once Codemaster\VP tried to deny previous Overlord owners acess to Linux port they gathered such bug shitstorm so magically changed their mind in several days!

Dont get me wrong, its great that they finally got this game DRM-free, but this one release is another "NO SOUP FOR U" to Linux userbase from GOG\Codemasters. Sometimes i starting to think why the hell i bothering with GOG? Its obvious that their Linux efforts is very...questionable.
Good thing at least indie folks is more or less easy to deal with.

MIK0: Seems there's an issue when downloading the English installer of Overlord II from Galaxy.
avatar
HertogJan: The downloader version also seems to be broken, as is Red Faction Guerilla RE-MARS-TERED, see screenshot.
GOG downloader has been discontinued for years now. It still works but it often has missing contents, that's why I'm stuck with Galaxy only to download the installers.
And as we can all see, they don't even check their files before release.

Redfern: Linux port by Virtual Programming
so I guess this is another situation like with Aspyr & Feral.
I'm totally stunned this finally got released after I recently finished the first game. Thanks guys!

If the game is anything like the first game, I am glad to see it here.

Not a good thing that Linux versions usually do not come here.

immi101: so I guess this is another situation like with Aspyr & Feral.
But Aspyr does have a few Linux games on GOG... Well, the ones developed by Bloober Team to be precise. But this kinda proves that macOS and Linux versions being ported by a third party are not an automatic deal-breaker for being released on GOG.

It's probably the particulars of the agreement between developer and porting house what matters here. Like, perhaps Aspyr got paid a lump sum for the ports and all the profits from the Mac and Linux sales go in their entirety to Bloober, so it doesn't really matter if there isn't an easy way to assign an OS to every individual sale.
What happened to the Linux version?

muntdefems: Why not Linux, GOG/Codemasters, why???? :__(
Did they say anything? Sounds like VP are OK with releasing it here.

VP weren't so DRM inclined, unlike Feral who are quite pro-DRM.

Well, there is at least for GOG. GOG log user agent during purchase and downloads (according to @linuxvangog). It means they can attribute it to the operating system even for Windows only games. So someone like Aspyr or VP can be compensated accordingly if they need a specific OS split.

I guess you're referring to what Redfern said earlier. If on the other hand what you mean is that my wording makes it sound like it's GOG's and/or Codemasters' fault only, then that's because I didn't know it was a VP job back then. :P

Anyway, is there any other game ported by VP here? Other than The Witcher 2, that is.

EDIT (to reply shmerl's own edit :P):

Yeah, we've discussed this before. According to linuxvangog (thanks for the reddit link, by the way, I wasn't aware of that semi-official statement), "it's the user agent used for buying the game that matters the most anyway". And to me, that's not very fair. I agree with you that downloaded installers should have a bigger (if not all of the) weight in the platform-assigning process.

Obviously, Steam's method of assigning the purchase to the OS on which the game is played the most during the first couple of days is the best in my eyes, but then again, that wouldn't pair well with DRM-freedom and client-optionality, so...

May be none. But there are several of their games that are missing Linux releases here. For example Saints Row: The Third. This kind of mess we are getting from Feral and VP is really irritating and doesn't encourage mutual respect. I'd consider it bordering on insulting. I largerly gave up on Feral and consider them simply hostile to DRM-free releases. But it looks like VP aren't any better.

Am I the only one who can't install the game because the installer fails the integrity check?

I have already downloaded the game twice but the files were identical. These are the md5 of the files I'm getting. Do they match with yours?

GOG should publish checksums on the downloads page. Humble Bundle does that.

You can check for yourself. :)

They definitely should, though. :\
