Boxing Day was almost over. Old Santa has had a lovely time with his family and friends over the past two days. He also had a little too much eggnog during the festivities; his cheeks were redder than usual, a clear sign that he needed to sleep it off. But his rocking chair was sooo comfy, he napped longer than he had planned.
He rubbed his eyes as he noticed the pile of boxes, festively wrapped and tied with silk ribbons, lit by the crackling fire in the fireplace. He glanced at the coffee table beside them; the cup of eggnog was empty and the cookies gone. He rubbed his chin under his long white beard - was it Papa Santa-zeffyr who had got the treats, or had he gobbled them all up himself?
He shook his shoulders and approached the presents with little dancing steps, giggling and clapping his hands like a little child.
He reached out to pick one up, but halfway through, another one caught his eye and he reached out to pick it up, and then another, and another; he just couldn't decide which one to open first.
But then he noticed the munched orange ribbon on one of the gift boxes.
"Ho! Ho! Ho! This one was delivered by Rudolph himself!" he exclaimed, and with that, he rushed at the pile; before you could say "Santa", he had unwrapped them all.
"What marvellous gifts!", he clapped his hands, his eyes gleaming with joy.
He poured himself a cup of eggnog and sat down to write thank-you cards.
- "My dear Secret Santa, my heartfelt thanks for the wonderful gifts, matched only by your warm and thoughtful wishes! May 2025 repay your kindness and generosity tenfold."
- "My not-so-Secret Elf, I can't thank you enough for the joyous surprise of a most wonderful gift and the... glorious message that came with it; never change! I hope 2025 brings you everything you wish for, and then some."
- "Dear GOG Elf, your support of our community tradition, and the unexpected gifts to me and all the Santas and Elves are greatly appreciated; thank you so much. May 2025 fill your catalogue to the brim and expand your clientele and community to the stars."
- "My dearest Papa Santa-zeffyr, what would we little Santas and Elves do, or even be, without you? No words can express my gratitude for your tireless efforts and the joy you have brought to each and every one of us. I hope that 2025 will be at least as generous, joyful and thoughtful to you as you have been to us."
Old Santa was sipping eggnog and reading through his thank-you cards. He was about to deliver them and call it a day when he suddenly snapped his fingers.
"Oops, I almost forgot! I really must lay off the eggnog," he muttered to himself.
- "Dear Santas and Elves, new and old, this wouldn't be a long-standing GOG Community tradition without all of you. May the spirit of the season see you through 2025, until we gather here again next year."
