the linux version of Football Manager 2018 runs fine without the steam client (which is kinda funny given that the windows version is protected by Denuvo :p)

Fairfox: can you play any of teh popcap gamies without teh steam runnin'
The only Popcap game on Steam confirmed to be DRM-Free is Bejeweled 3:-
http://steam.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games

But most others like Plants vs Zombies, Zuma, etc, aren't listed so either they have Steamworks DRM or no-one has tested them yet.

MarkoH01: Could somebody tell me if the Pajama Sam series needs the Steam client? Even after I asked the devs they did not bring the Germen version of the games to GOG so I was hoping this would be an alternative.
avatar
AB2012: I don't own them to test for you but I thought all ScummVM compatible games didn't have any Steamworks DRM / wouldn't call the Steam client anyway precisely because ScummVM only uses the game's data files, and doesn't use the .exe?

Edit - I found the proper link : http://wiki.scummvm.org/index.php/Datafiles

All you need is the data files "PAJAMA.HE0" to "PAJAMA.HE7", etc. If you use ScummVM, no .exe provided by Steam will even be run, so they should all be Steamworks free (as are most other DOSBox & ScummVM games).
That sounds good. Did not even know they were using ScummVM but good to know. Now I just have to wait for a very low sale so that those lazy devs don't get too much money from me. Thank you.
I can confirm that Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily is running without Steam on windows as well after applying the Steam_appid.txt trick. (Tested on Win7/64)

Same goes for
Dark Arcana: The Carnival
Eventide: Slavic Fable
Fairy Tale Mysteries: The Puppet Thief
The Secret Order 2: Masked Intent
Vampire Legends: The true Story of Kisilova

Some more reports:

1) Linux games (none of them not on the Wiki yet, unless noted otherwise):

· A Kiss For The Petals - Remembering How We Met

· CO-OP: Decrypted: needed the 'steam_appid.txt trick' (315130)

· Max Stern: it tries to launch in fullscreen mode, but it ends up in what looks like a sort of 1280x720px borderless window occupying the central part of the desktop. Other than that, the game runs fine.

· Pankapu

· Rise to Ruins: already in the Wiki and now confirmed for Linux. (In Dev version 30e tested)

· Sudden Strike 4

· The Count Lucanor

· Weapon Shop Fantasy

2) A Windows game tested on Linux with Wine set up as Windows 7:

· Earthtongue

I see that Postal 2 is only confirmed for Linux on the wiki. I was also able to run both it and the Paradise Lost expansion on Windows 10 without the Steam client.
A batch of games that won't need the Steam client:

Dungeon of Elements (Out of the box)
Jim Power: The Lost Dimension (Out of the box)
Super 3-D Noah's Ark (Out of the box)
Serial Cleaner (Out of the box)
Super Trench Attack 2 (Out of the box)
Unbox: Newbie's Adventure (Out of the box. Note: Don't run boxjump.exe on the root directory, but either of the executables on the Boxjump/Binaries/Win64 subfolder)

All games tested on Windows 10.

Super House of the Dead Ninjas is also on the list, but it seems that while the game runs without the Steam client, it won't save your progress.

A few novelties for the list.

These NeoCore games (as well as King Arthur and Van Helsing, already mentioned in the list) are completely and absolutely Steam-free:

Crusaders: Thy Kingdom Come

https://store.steampowered.com/app/24410/Crusaders_Thy_Kingdom_Come/

The Kings' Crusade

https://store.steampowered.com/app/42920/The_Kings_Crusade/

Tested on Win7-32.

P.S. The first one (Thy Kingdom) only requires NVidia PhysX to run so you'll need to have it installed.

And another medieval update for the list ;)

All the XIII Century series games is absolutely and completely free of Steam contamination:

XIII Century Gold Edition

https://store.steampowered.com/app/34420/XIII_Century__Gold_Edition/

Real Warfare 1242

https://store.steampowered.com/app/46350/Real_Warfare_1242/

Real Warfare 2: Northern Crusades

https://store.steampowered.com/app/202860/Real_Warfare_2_Northern_Crusades/

Tested on Win7-32 as always.

P.S. You should be ready to get the real pain in the bum while trying to make these games run on modern systems. Search over the Net, there are various recipes, some may work for you, some won't. But the time spent is worth of it, these are very good games for the Medieval strategy/combat fans.

Apparently the just-released-on-Steam Shenmue I & II can be made DRM-free with the 'steam_appid.txt trick':

EDIT (and PS): anyone who gets the new horror bundle from Humble, could you please report here the DRM status of the games included in it? Thanks!

Hey, just letting everyone know that I'm still here, and I'll update the wiki soon. I have to go out of town because of a death in the family, so I'll get to it soon here, hopefully this weekend.

Sure, take your time! This is not a paid job, so you shouldn't feel obliged to anything. My condolences, and see you back soon.

Careful. According to this post from the same thread it should not work anymore with the latest beta.
