More content falls out of the skies.

Sunless Skies, the continuation to the thoroughly Lovecraftian Sunless Sea, just received a significant update which adds a second region for star travelers to explore.

A bastion of the British Empire's presence in the treacherous High Wilderness, Albion of course contains the great city of London that Queen Victoria prudently sent to space. Sitting on her Throne of Hours, she now rules over her subjects and time itself, providing a (false?) sense of stability in these darkest of times. Just how dark is up to you and your crew to discover.

According to the developers, the game is scheduled to leave its In Development phase in September 2018.
Pretty awesome!

Loved Sunless Sea, I'm sure I'll be a huge fan of this one too.

Did we always know it was expected to release in September or is that new info?

Good.
Forgot this was a thing. Having loved Sunless Sea I might take the plunge this weekend once I get some money. Ideally I would wait since this company's early access practices are bad and shouldn't be encouraged but September is just too far away...

LordCrepe: this company's early access practices are bad and shouldn't be encouraged
Could you elaborate a bit on this?
Do you mean that all early access is bad, or that Failbetter Games tend to mess up their early access releases?
More content for a game I backed awhile ago during it's Kickstarter run? I'll happily take that and enjoy it :)
ATTENTION TO ANYONE PLAYING ON OLD SAVE (AND MAYBE NEW ONES)!!!!

An old bug that change amount of your cash instead of increasing it appeared yet again. Buying and selling works properly, but quests and random events (like looting coffin... Hey, don't judge...) set amount of your cash equal to how much you gained. Lost over 1000 echos.

How come? The reason the game is delayed is it sold 6 times worse than Sunless Sea and they had to fire a bunch of people, including their best (but also worst) writer.

The reason I suggest caution is that the locomotive's controls are shit and Failbetter have been reluctant to improve them because they have a fawning swarm of sycophants around them all the fucking time who've been tripping over each other shouting "no waiii it's purrrfect just the way it is we luv shitty arcade gameplay in our contemplative narrative games". But we're on GOG and people have two weeks to get a refund.

Wait... I don't understand. You say the reason the game was delayed was that it sold 6 times worse than Sunless Sea, but it hasn't even been released yet. What do you mean?
I love Sunless Sea, and I'm happy to go back to it any time (yes I say that about many great games). However, I'll be following my smart consumer ways and wait until this is out of the gates, much like I did with Sunless Sea.

It was a kickstarter (sauce: I backed it on Kickstarter)
That's nice, but I'll still wait until the game is out before even considering buying it. I just don't understand why I should pay to beta test a game, or even for that matter spend money on a game that isn't finished when there are so many games available that are.

Imo, early access and preorders are a terrible idea and GOG would be better if it stayed far away from both those things, but I guess that ship has sailed.
I'm... disappointed.
Less than with the first region, but still.
Gameplay quality is much, much better than in Sunless Sea. There's no more money struggling problems as with Sunless Sea, grind element is still kinda there but it's not as invasive as in Fallen London or Sunless Sea.
However, the story jumped few floors down from Fallen London and Sunless Sea. Fallen London has a lot of mystical, metaphysical inspirations. Sunless Skies is just literally "damn commies" vs "damn capitalists". Albion adds some layer of bizarre, eerie stuff, but it's not even close to Fallen London/Sunless Sea. It just plays as "British Empire... In space!" or "Industrial Revolution... In Space!".

I'm gonna stop playing now and wait for full release. I wish them all best, gameplay is a GIANT improvement from Sunless Sea so they certainly learned a lot about it, but in terms of writing... Lack of Alexis Kennedy can be felt already and I'm afraid it's not going to be better.

The kickstarter release estimate / 1.0 release with respect to Early Access was May 2018. Now it's September 2018, because it isn't selling well in EA despite having done better than Sea on kickstarter. There's been finger-pointing and other assorted drama.
