Up in the sky! Look! It's a bird! it's a plane! It's a...new Superman movie!

The cast of characters...we got Krypto, we got Luthor (obviously), we got Green Lantern (Guy Gardner), we got Hawkgirl, we got uh...Doomsday? We got Mr. Terrific...and more! Yeah I'm not sure what the glowy thing in the sky was. My guess is Brainiac but I honestly don't know. Edit: could also be Starro. Doesn't look like Starro to me but the shape is the same.

This looks like the first proper Superman film since the Reeves movies. Superman is the symbol of hope, I think most fans don't want to spend an hour and a half watching him sulk. Yeah I f--king hated BvS.

Not sure what the story is, but it looks like Luthor tricks the public into thinking he did something wrong.

Anyway, I'm super excited! See what I did there? Oh-ho-ho-ho! What do you think?

Was out the moment he whistled and Super-Dog showed up.
Guess I'll be sticking with the more mature, grounded Snyderverse "Man of Steel" incarnation as my preferred one.

I think it's good that we're filtering out people who can't take a little bit of silly in their movies. I'd rather have Krypto than action figure fights via the crazy mind of the Tom Clancy of a younger generation, Frank Miller.

It's possible I might watch it, most likely for free, depending on my mood, which is about as well as Hollywood is capable of these days. I hated Superman Returns and didn't even bother with the Snyder movies.

It's a good trailer (and hope the movie's good), but...

... not my thing I guess (but then I fell out of love with with Gunn by Guardians 3 and haven't looked back).

I may have grown up reading the first Crisis on Infinite Earths, but I've since grown tired of stories pushing lots of "super" characters stuffed into one comic / movie / show. The last time I enjoyed it (although it finally did wear out its welcome in the later years) was Smallville.

I'm a huge Superman fan, but not particularly of Superboy, Supergirl, Krypto, etc.

For me, the Brandon Routh Superman movie was a great idea with the PERFECT post-Reeves casting, but told... TERRIBLY. Really did feel like if someone else took the general story, Routh, etc. (and kept that opening with the jet!) there could have been a great movie. I will always find it hard to believe that Bryan Singer -- who made some great X-Men movies -- fumbled Superman so completely.

What's wrong with Krypto?

I don't think "grounded" works with characters like Superman or Wonder Woman. It would be like having a fantasy story with a realistic dragons and wizards, and not those fake dragons and wizards you see in other stories. I love that we're actually getting some whimsy in a superhero film. What's wrong with James Gunn? Not defending him, just curious.

I think you make a good point about having too many characters. IMO that's why Spider-Man 3 and Iron Man 3 sucked (I'm still pissed about the Mandarin reveal). Characters need time to develop, and when there is too much competition for screen time, you get really shallow plots for each of character.

I'm not impressed. There's nothing terrible about it, but then it didn't really show me much of anything I didn't already know, and what I know I don't like. I feel like they're introducing a whole bunch of characters like Guy Gardner because all Gunn knows how to make is more Guardians of the Galaxy in one form or another. At the same time with the music and visuals like the kryptonian crystals it seems to be skewing strongly towards the Donner movie, which I like a lot, but I'm not crazy about retreading that ground. Superman Returns tried already and it didn't work. I'm not sure how big Luthor's role is going to be, but I'm not crazy about seeing him. Superman has a great roster of villains, give me Metallo, Parasite, Bizarro, Mongul, not Lex again. I don't really like the look of the new Superman himself. Maybe he'll be great and I'll totally change my mind, but right now he just looks to me worse than any big screen Superman so far.

But I have to admit - I'm biased as hell. I love Man of Steel, it's one of my top favorite superhero movies of all time, and even BvS I think is a great film, especially the extended cut. As is Snyder's Justice League. So I'm pissed about this reboot, about Cavill, who was absolutely perfect, being kicked out, and I'm not a fan of James Gunn.

I think it looks awesome. Way better than Man of Steel and the other Snyder crap we got.

I don't know about the rest of the movie or the cast, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing Krypto on the big screen.

Gunn has cultivated a particular style. It was kinda punk and shocking in the "Super" years and rock-and-roll and pseudo-rebellious in the "Guardians" years, but...

... just gets (for me) tired and strangely dated over the years. For me it's like James Gunn has become a rip-off of James Gunn. (IMO Zach Snyder has become a parody of himself as well.)

I miss filmmakers like Richard Donner. He was a workman's director who knew how to tell any story and do it without putting his own flashy gimmick in every story or shot. And if you look up his movies... The Omen, Ladyhawke, Scrooged, The Goonies, The Toy, Lethal weapon 1 - 4 and Superman I & II (among others... as well as Exec Prod X-Men and X-men 2). There was IMO a brilliant director. Gunn? Not so much IMO. But then most current Hollywood directors are more gimmick and flash than talent.

I'm sick of sequels and even more sick of reboots. It might very well be an OK film, but I'm done supporting films like this.

Lex is definitely overused as a Superman villain. I don't personally mind him that much, but at this point it's cliche and predictable. I thought it was refreshing when The Batman (2022) had Riddler as the main villain instead of Joker. The upcoming Superman film probably should have done something similar and have the villain be Gorilla Grodd or Ultra-Humanite or something.

Since you're a fan of the Snyder films, what do you think of Lex's portrayal in BvS? To me it looked like they were trying to make the Joker, which I thought was strange.

Corenswet's face is a little off IMO - at least as Superman. I think he's fine with the Clark Kent look. As much as I hate the Snyder films I admit Cavill does look better in the costume. Cavill's costume was also form-fitting, which was better at showing his super-physique.

Those are some great movies, I'll have to revisit them.

At first I didn't like that version at all, was easily the weakest element of the movie for me, though still better than Spacey's bizarre performance from Returns. On rewatching the extended cut, I liked him better, maybe because I knew what to expect. I get what they were going for, a Lex from a different generation of the tech era billionaires. Still, it's not "my" Luthor. My favorite version by far is the DC Animated Universe Clancy Brown Lex, and so far no live action version came close. For some reason they don't even try for that kind of cold, machiavellian Lex.

I guess maybe the Arrowverse one was kind of going for that, from what little I've seen of him, but those shows were so crap it hardly matters.

What've always made these "Superman" movies great has been the good choice of choosing the one who play as Superman I really like all 8 of them, even Routh was great in Superman Returns, albeit the weakest ones. Though I liked him in Chuck too.

The actor has to inspire greatness, larger than life, yet be charming and warm, and cold hard has steel when he had to. The more modern ones more than the originals when it comes to the later points, at least progressively darker.

This comes from someone who's never read any comics from DC at all. Don't think they even existed in my 'hot' area when I grew up, so I don't know too much of these alternate nemesis of Superman, apart from Lex.

The choice for Lois is just as important as she's ultimately his stabilizing center core and the chemistry has to really work. Kate Bosworth was however not a good choice, but Amy Adams was prefect (biased of course, who doesn't love her on the screen?).

But this? These trailers focus way too much on cramming as much action as possible in a minute or so, effectively revealing too much and too little at the same time. I remain naturally skeptical as I am for every movie Hollywood put out these days.

I am however looking forward to take a look at something called "Extended KCOP Cut" of the original '78 movie. That might be fun. XD
