Since someone brought up Alex Proyas' Dark City I got to thinking of another Proyas' movie that I also enjoyed (athough I remember very little of it upon recollection)... but most hated...

Gods of Egypt

And a Nicholas Cage film that I really love around Halloween for that kind of Van Helsing (the movie) schlock...

Season of the Witch

I tend not to mention much horror because that genre has a long history of "good" / "bad" movies.

I would mention Mars Attacks!, but I think that's a genuinely good movie meant to be as corny as the 60's trading cards on which it was based.

In no way is Dark City a bad film. It's really, truly great in my opinion. Gods of Egypt, on the other hand, is definitely trash, but very fun trash. Geoffrey Rush as Ra commanding the giant space solar barge and fighting darkness incarnate is alone a sight so awesome it's worth watching the film for.

And there's also I, Robot, which I remember got a pretty cold reception, but I think it's a really good film. Now granted, it doesn't hold up compared to Asimov's books, but judged on its own merits it's definitely an above average sci-fi action flick.

And there's The Knowing, which I remember being terrible but also very funny to watch, but I honestly don't actually remember anything from the movie itself now.

I really used to love that movie and watched it over and over again... but when I re-watched it recently, now it felt childish, cliched (a speedboat pursuit... COME ON! What is this, a Miami Vice episode?), bad acting overall etc. And I was already an adult when I saw it the first time so it is not really a case about loving something as a child and then growing out of it, so no idea why I don't like it anymore.

The same happened to e.g. Mission Impossible 2. Well, it might also be that after e.g. Austin Powers 3 spoofed the movie, I couldn't watch the movie with a straight face anymore.

Any Steven Seagal movie, I like action b films.

A few more that I like are Cyborg starring JCVD, Waterworld and Prometheus.

Waterworld wasn't that bad...just wasn't that good either. I did get to the end, though they could have probably cut out a lot of the scenes and it still would have turned out the same.

I got reminded about Justice League by another post (Batman v Superman mention).
Justice League was on TV last year and I was curious about it, so I watched it. And suffered. However, after that I got a new TV that can record things and I have been hoping the movie would be on again so I could fast forward and watch couple of scenes I recall liking.

Recently I was watching the Matrix sequels, last time I watched them when they were new. I don't really care about the story of the movies but this time I noticed some side characters who I liked. Who those were I can't remember now. Might skip scenes one day, look for those characters.

I like the Hobbit movies a lot. Very good looking characters and plenty of scenes I like.
I don't like Lord of the Rings movies very much. That has to do with the book, I prefer that to the movies. While the Hobbit book I could never really care about.

Dark Star (1974) Some of the humor is cringey, but I enjoyed the literally smart bomb part.

The only good part of this movie were bomb dialogues (I almost laughed at one moment), everything else was utterly boring for me. Nice movie for a school project (or whatever it was) but nothing significant in comparison to some serious work. Thank goodness the developers created good stuff soon after.
I second it, that movie is really good. But the ending is so depressing, even if it should be considered as "good ending". And that only adds to the goodness of the movie.

I like the Sharpe's Rifles series of TV movies. Horribly formulaic war period pieces, but still fun, despite the -isms in some of them.

Something is very wrong in this world when some thinks Dark City or John Carter is a bad movie and still enjoys them...
then again, who am I to judge :P
